| Yeah! I got's my tix! It's wonderful having freinds there. Actually,

what the 'bills at WPI say.

| Johnny Smith will be playing with his trio and a guest guitarist
(former student, I believe) on February 25th. The event is sponsored
by the local Jazz/Swing enthusiasts of Colo Sprgs.
Tickets can be had from Rice Music at 12.50 each. If you've never
seen Johnny play I highly recommend it.

I saw Stanley Jordan at the WPI show Friday night, and I was IMPRESSED.
The man is a virtuoso. I'd read interviews with the man but had
never actually heard him play so I really did'nt know what to
expect. He had a band consisting of keyboards, bass and drums.
The highlight of the evening for me was when he was playing a
rhythm/bass line ditty with his left hand on his guitar, and
was doing solos with his right hand on a Casio Synth guitar.
It sounded like he was jamming with a keyboard player.
He had the Casio and another guitar mounted on stands in such
a way that he could play them without needing to hold them in
his hands. Amazing technique this guy posseses, if you get the
opportunity to go see him, by all means do it.

Yep, I agree with Larry 95%. Around the middle of the concert,
and keyboardist, drummer and bassist left. Stanley Jordan then
got on the synth guitar, but sort of overdid it, IMHO. If I wanted
to hear a lot of neat sounds(and neat sounds they were!) through
a synth gtr, I'd go to a music store and try 'em out myself. I
thought the middle was a little self-indulgent. But when
he started playing TWO guitars at once, my hair stood on end. It
was a very good show.
Bassist was good, too!

| I was totaly blown away,haven't touched my ax in 4 days.
the synth part was way overblown as previosly stated,but
the rest of the show was AMAZING.

| I saw Stanley at the Boulder Theatre last Thursday eve. I got row 9 right
in front of him. I enjoyed the show alot, don't get me wrong but, I was
really disappointed 'cause he only had a 3 piece group. Drums, Bass and
Stanley. Granted the dudes good enough to accompany himself on rhythym, but
songs like "Lady in my life" had to be done with the adjustment and it came
out pretty empty feeling IMHO. I think his drummers last name was MOFFAT &
his bass player was a young looking kinda longair brother using a blue
ALEMBIC(is that right?) I think. But I didn't catch his name. Were these
the same guys you saw on the east coast? I had seen him just one week ago
on AUSTIN CITY LIMITS and he had the full group, but everyone 'cept the
drummer were different personnell than I saw live.
The show lasted 2 and a half hours and it was pretty hot for the most part.
If I had one complaint about the music end of it, I think I'd say that
though I really appreciate all that Stanley can do and his virtuosity,
after a forty minute solo in the middle of the show it started getting
kinda boring and monotonous he did the synth trip and all that, but as
others have stated, different sounds don't a concert make.
I know he used a CASIO synth guit, and a TRAVIS BEAM on the stands, but
what is his main ax? Was this an ALEMBIC the bass player used, any ideas
what the bass player had in his components stack for his effects? What
was his name?

| His main axe he used is/was a French guitar called a 'Vizier', and
I believe @WPI the bassist used the same make bass. I've seen ads for
them in GP and other rags, but had never seen anyone use them until then.

Saw Stanley and his band on TV a couple of weeks ago.
His bassist was using a Fender Jazz Bass run through an AMP BH-420 bass
head and two Hartke 4 x 10" bass cabs.
Stanley played the Vigier guitar through a custom rack setup driving
a pair of Hartke 4 x 12" guitar cabs, split across the stage (stereo
no doubt).
