| Here is my method for doing my basses. I set the saddle height
so that there is no buzzing when playing notes up around the 12th
fret area then adjust the truss rod tension so that there is no
or little (depending upon your taste for the action) buzzing around
the 5th fret. The neck should be slightly concave, this will ( and
should be) noticable around the 5th to 7th frets.
NOTE
****
If the action is way out to begin with you may have to do this
twice, the first time to get in the ball park, the second for fine
tuning.
Another point is that basses are much more sensitive to differrent
gauges of strings and hummidity changes but on the other side the
tollerances for the adjustments are much wider than for a guitar

| I've got a similar problem to the one Bob describes -- where can
I get a copy of the Guitar Manual?
Any advice on Fretless basses? I've had a loan of one for a few
days and have become a convert. WHat are the preferred makes?
Cheers,
Henry Fullerton

Preferred makes for fretlesses? Just about anything....Pedulla
seems to be pretty popular in the US due to the epoxied fretboard
(the only factory-made epoxied board, I believe) and the fret marker
inlays.
If you're in the UK, the answer is quite obvious...WAL !!!!!

The Guitar Handbook should be available in any bookstore for about
$17.
