1042.1 | SUPER <> TWIN | ASHBY::BEFUMO | I may get older but I refuse to grow up | Wed Dec 28 1988 07:28 | 9 |
| First of all, the super is the same head as the PRO-reverb - the
twin is roughly twice the power. Personally, I'd choose a super-reverb
over just about any other non-vintage fender amp. For what it's
worth, Daddy's in Nashua has a used master-volume super for $325.,
bit it's not one of the best examples I've seen (needs tubes, and
not one of fender's best years). In their recent "Amp issue", "Guitar
Player" magazine lists the going rate for Super Reverbs as $200.
to $400., which, if the local want ads are any indication, is probably
pretty accurate.

1042.2 | re. -1, your right... | BPOV02::M_CLEMENT | | Wed Dec 28 1988 08:52 | 11 |
| Yes I did make a mistake. It is the same head as the PRO-Reverb.
I realized that after I got home last nite and pulled out the owners
manual. I was then sure someone would correct the comparison.
Anyways thanks for your feedback. Considering it is in mint condition,
needs nothing, and is a screaming amp, I am probably going to ask
$375/BO. I'll be placing it up for sale as soon as I get my keyboard
amp.

1042.3 | MUCH better than a PRO | ROLL::BEFUMO | I may get older but I refuse to grow up | Wed Dec 28 1988 09:04 | 6 |
| I had a Pro-reverb which I recently sold because . . . come to think
of it, I don't know WHY I sold it - seemed like a good idea at the
time. Anyway, it sounded nice, but never quite as good as a Super.
I just LOVE 10's for guitar.

1042.6 | what to do ??? | BPOV04::M_CLEMENT | | Thu Dec 29 1988 09:30 | 16 |
| Ayup, you guys are all right. I bought it from a harp player some
years ago.
You guys are making me reconsider selling it with all this praise.
Maybe I should keep the super for my SG, and still get a keyboard
amp for my Korg DW-8000. I was going to just use the keyboard amp
for both guitar and keys... But I'll probably never get that sound
for my guitar again...??? Anyhow it always come down to the same
old dilemma, how much equipment do I REALLY need to have around.
I refuse to jam or gig my keyboard on a guitar amp, I don't believe
in it, it will ruin the amp. Thats why I NEVER let someone plug
in their bass or keyboard into my guitar amp at a jam. However
I have no problem pluging a guitar into a bass or keyboard amp.

1042.7 | Fender Super Reverb | FRETZ::HEISER | electric warrior, acoustic saint | Mon Apr 27 1992 11:07 | 13 |
| I obtained one of these this weekend and have some questions about it.
- This may sound dumb, but it's like this in the world of tape decks:
Does the reverb unit input cable go to the reverb input jack on the
amp or vice versa?
- I haven't gotten mine working yet (I think it needs new tubes). Does
this amp have 2 channels?
Any other info would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Mike

| Yes, a Super has two channels but they run in parallel. Only the
second channel gets reverb or tremelo.

1042.9 | New Fender 4x10" Super... I really need this amp! | WEDOIT::ABATELLI | | Wed Jan 26 1994 09:05 | 25 |
| Hi there!
I checked out the latest version of the Fender Super 4x10" amp last
night and fell in love with it. I hate it when that happens because now
I feel a need to sell my MESABoogie to buy one of these! HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!
All tube (tube reverb too)
60 watts (8 ohms)
4-10" Vintage "blue" w/Alnico magnets
2 channels (w/clean and 2 stage overdrive, like having 3 channels)
Independent tone controls per channel
Reverb on both channels too!
Tilt back legs
Only bad thang? NO TREMOLO! Dang!
Has anyone else tried one of these new SUPER puppies out yet? Comments?
A little heavy in weight (65 lbs), but somehow I can overlook that
;^).
GTS has hit me... HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Rock on,
Fred

| RE: .11
True, I was disappointed that this SUPER wasn't a "reissue", but it
was just sitting there, so why not try it? I didn't expect it to sound
as good as it did (to my ears). This new Fender has alot more to offer
in the way of a more modern tone, but no way is it a reissue! It's just
another great sounding amp. If there was a real reissue Super Reverb...
I'd probably be going "gah gah" over it!
Guess the real deal here is that we all need to hear an amp before
declaring it unworthy of existence.
Have a nice day,
Fred

1042.13 | Problem with the Super Reverb :^( | FABSIX::E_PHILLIPS | Music of the spheres. | Sat Apr 26 1997 08:29 | 26 |
| Okay, a question for you toob experts.....
I've got a problem with my wife's mid-70s Super Reverb. It was
overhauled back in December (new tubes, new reverb tank, two speakers
replaced) and sounded great when I got it back. But at a gig last
week, something "changed" in the sound of the amp: After a couple hours
of playing, the low notes (mostly the A and E strings) would sound
distorted at relatively low volumes (I play country music - no snide
remarks, please!) while the upper strings would sound mostly OK. It
doesn't sound anything like the "overdriven tube" sound I know; it sounds
quite ratty. It's got me pretty bothered because that amp has been
able to sound very clean at club volumes for the past 4 months.
I tried it again last night; the amp sounded OK while setting up, but
as soon as the full band started playing, the same distortion began
almost immediately this time.
A friend of mine told me that the 6L6 power tubes were probably not
"matched" when installed, and that this is causing one of them to
prematurely die out. Does this sound like a reasonable guess? Should
I look around for a matched set, anyway? What would youze toob guys
suggest that I do?
Help!

I'd have them checked (tubes that is..)

| Watch the tubes when you are playing at "gig" volume (at home) and hit
a few low notes. Does one of your power tubes glow bright? It happened
to me on my Fender as well and it was a faulty tube. Just a thought...
although it could also be a speaker that you didn't replace. Also
are you using any effects? With the tube test above plug straight
into the amp without any effects and try it out.
Let us know what you find OK?
Good luck,
Fred

| Update on .13
Neal went through the amp a couple weeks ago; he found a few loose
solder connections, nothing really serious. At his recommendation,
he replaced several a the capacitors (a standard mod for Fenders) and
adjusted the tube bias to pre-CBS standards.
I played the amp for a set the Sunday before last and it sounded great.
For the acid test, last weekend I had two full-length gigs; one on
Saturday and one on Sunday. The Fender has never sounded better!
Dr. Neal, my hat's off to you for a magnificent job!

about a week ago regarding a Peavey XMT1200 board that

So called Neal, he said, "Love to help, but...."
I guess the day gig and other interests are just keeping
him away from his amp repair work (for now anyway..)
