Back in March of this year, I posted a note asking for suggestions on 5 string basses. For all of your responses I thank you. Taking the advice of one respondent, I called Carvin and had a catalogue sent up to me. I sure liked most of what I saw. But, at the time, I didn't have the scratch to make any moves. Well, I have the scratch now, but lo and behold, I've gotten even cheaper than I was before. Getting to the point, here is what I'm looking for: 1. I know some of you guys have Carvin guitars/basses. What is your opinion on the basses....especially the 5 strings?? 2. If I get favorable feedback on Carvin, then I would be looking for a USED 5 string.(I suppose I should mention that even the cheapest new Carvin 5 string will run me $750 - $800 Canadian, after duty, taxes etc.) Therefore, if any of you guys have a Carvin 5 string with which you would part, let me know. Also, if you have seen any used ones for sale, in any of the shops you may frequent. The name, location, and phone number (plus area code) of any stores would be of great help. For my taste in music, the 4 string just don't cut it no more. I hope somebody can help, cause I just gotta have one!!!!!!! Thanks Barry (when it comes to bass, I'm all thumb!)

For curiosity, why do you want a 5 string bass?

Re: .1....... It's that extra low end. I love it!!!!! I'm very much into jazz, funk, and music of that genre. It seems that almost every time I pick up a new album or tape these days, I hear that 5 string low end. As I try to play the same type of material, the Fender just keeps running out of strings on me. You must be a musician and a music lover, as I am. I'm sure you can relate to those certain sounds, passages, riffs etc., that give you goose bumps. That's what that extra low does to me. As an example, check out Anita Bakers' latest offering, "Givin' You the Best That I Got". Both the title song, and whole album use the 5 string extensively. B

Maybe you can call Carvin and see if they have any 5 strings left from the previous year in the showrooms in either escondido or Hollyweird. When I've walked in the showrooms, they seemed very willing to deal on previous year's models. Ashley

Ashley, You're a genius!! Why didn't I think of that? Well, that's another matter..... That's a really good idea, and I'm going to give it a try as soon as I can. Thanks large, Barry
