863.1 | DiMarzio Replacement Pickup | AQUA::ROST | Now Sally is a happy girl | Tue Sep 27 1988 09:20 | 24 |

Di Marzio used to make a pickup called the Model 1 which was a drop
in replacement for the big Gibson humbuckers. The catalog claimed
it offered two sounds (via a micro-switch), one Fenderish, the other
Rickenbackerish. I think they still make it, as Billy Sheehan was
endorsing it!!!!
I once tried an EB1 with one installed and it did indeed lack that
typical EB muddiness, but the pickup is placed too close to the
fingerboard to really get that P-bass timbre.
EB1s, either originals from the 50s or the reissues from the late
60s are collector's items and really rare. Even beat ones often
go for over $500!!!
I haven't seen many EB-anythings around for decent bux lately.
Used to be you could pick up EB0s all the time for $100...guess
the supply has finally dwindled!!!
If you really want cheap and playable, get a Peavey T40 bass....I
had to practically give mine away last year for $150....they are
really nice basses IMO and they are a steal at the typical used
prices of $250 and under.

863.2 | I also want an EB-2 | GVA05::BERGMANS | | Tue Sep 27 1988 10:42 | 5 |
| If you find an EB-2 that you do not want, tell me. I am searching
one since a few months. I owned one some 20 years ago and would
like to own one again.
Thanks in advance.

| Was the EB-1 the violin shaped one? I seem to remember that you
could take out the strap button, connect it to a stand, and play
it as an upright? Why anyone would want to do that is beyond me,
but it would LOOK cool.

863.5 | Want ad... | HOFNER::MELENDEZ | | Tue Sep 27 1988 15:18 | 4 |
| I have seen a few in the last month of two in the want ads.
They are going from $150 to one that looks like a 335 for $500
or something like that.

863.6 | Thanks - just bought one | ROLL::BEFUMO | Nuke the Whales | Tue Sep 27 1988 15:23 | 4 |
| Thanks to all,
I just picked up a Yamaha BB300. Seemed like a real decent
instrument at a good price. Now I can hold out for the Jazz bass
I REALLY want.

863.7 | Want-Ad mania | RICKS::CALCAGNI | | Wed Sep 28 1988 14:29 | 5 |
| in case anyone else is interested, there are not one but two EB3's
in the latest copy of the Want-Ads. One of them is an EB3L with
J-bass pickups; maybe this is the best of both worlds :-)

863.8 | $400. for a hatchet job??? Not from me! | ROLL::BEFUMO | Nuke the Whales | Thu Sep 29 1988 10:30 | 8 |
| Yea, I noticed that - $400.00, wasn't it? I tried to envision
how one would mount a J Bass Pu in that big hole, and, even if it
was done right, you're gonna end up with something that'll never
be worth anything. Now, if it had the original PUs for that price
I would have taken a look at it, even if it meant having the additional
expense of replacing the pick ups with Duncans, or something else
that would look right.
