779.0. "semi-acoustic bass" by GVA05A::BERGMANS () Tue Aug 16 1988 07:20

    Long ago (something like 20 years) I owned an EPIphone semi-acoustic
    bass.

    It looked very similar to the equivalent Gibson. Id do not remember
    the model name or number, but it had one single microphone, the
    shape of the mike was almost square, and it had four srcews to adjust
    the distance between the coil an the strings.

    I do not pretend that it was a very good bass for everything but
    I loved it.

    I stopped playing bass and sold it.

    Years later I started playing again, and went back to a Fender
    Precision.

    I still miss some of the sounds (very soft basses) that I got out
    of the EPIphone (it was combine with a self made amplifier with
    two 18 inches speakers) and would be very intersted in buying one
    (preferably in very good condition)

    Does anyone remember the model designation, where I could find
    one, the price. (I would also be intersted by the Gibson equivalent)

    Thanks in advance

779.1Gibson EB-2AQUA::ROSTNow Sally is a happy girlTue Aug 16 1988 09:299

    The Gibson equivalent was known as an EB-2. It was also available
    in a two pickup version, the EB-2D.

    Don't know where you're from, but in Boston and NYC these often
    surface for under $200, although I haven't seen many around lately
    no doubt because they've been discontinued for almost 20 years.

    I live in Geneva but I travel quite otfen to the US. If I have not
    found one in Europe before my next travel, I will give it a try when
    I am over.

    Harmony also made semi-hollow bass guitar similar to the Epiphone
    and the Gibson. Can't remember the model designation right now,
    but I could look it up if you're interested. These were very nice
    basses and were even used by a few well know pros. Best of all,
    the original list price was $200; a good buy if you run across one.

    	Guild Starfire basses are similar. My old bass player bought
    	one in 1969.

    I just traded my Yamaha Semi-Hollow (emerald green) for a Rich 4001,
    but I really hated to part with it. It had great action and excellent
    sound , especially the low tones. The only thing I didn't like about
    it was it's shape. The larger body made it uncomfortable to play for
    long periods of time.
