766.0. "Are you in Europe..." by NITMOI::MELENDEZ () Wed Aug 10 1988 16:57

I would like to ask for some help from the European noters. I am looking
for some information Hofner. As far as I know Hofner is not in business
here in the USA, but they are doing fine in Europe.

I am looking for a Hofner bass as in the early Beatles. This bass looks
like a violin. I could find them here, but it can be a long time before
you get to see one for sale. Then again, next week I could find one.

Since there is a small chance of getting a business trip over to Ireland
(Galway plant), I figure I ask! If some one from either Ireland or
England is out there who can help me, that would be great.

    Hofner basses can be purchased new by calling Guitars R Us in Hollywood
    California at 213-874-8221. They supposedly bought a bunch of them
    and have them in stock.

    Vintage guitars are becoming more readily available in London but
    are liable to cost you an arm and a leg.

    If you do get to London, try Charing Cross Road and Denmark Street
    (which is a turning off it).

    I think you really need to see and handle what you are buying don't
    you?

766.3I need a Hofner place too.BANZAI::CARPENTERExiled CanardThu Aug 25 1988 16:3818
Just what I was looking for, a note about hofners.

I have a 20 year old 3 pickup Hofner. As a 16 year old I thought nothing
of 'modifying' it to hold a Gibson pickup in place of one of the pickups.

Now that I am a slightly more intelligent adult I would like to repair the
damage I have done. It was a really nice guitar.

So, I got a number of a Hofner place in NY state, but it doesn't seem to
exist anymore. I too, would like to get in touch with a Hofner dealer in
Europe to see if I can order a replacement pickup and a new face plate
for it. My ultimate goal is to return it to its original state and keep it.

Anybody out there have any addresses and phone numbers?

I called them about possible parts for my Hofner and they do not have any
parts, just a few used Beatle Bass guitars.

I am checking into some of the other numbers/places I found in here.
