| do not put the output of your pignose into the input of your yamaha..
you could do some damage. The amp in the pignose is transfomer coupled,
and it's extremely impedance sensistive (input resistance to your
yammy will be magnatudes higher than the pignose wants to see).
Your only solutiopn would be to hook a direct box between the two.

Thanx in advance.

| a direct box ais a gizadeechee that allows you to hook a speaker
output to a line/guitar input, essentially they hook onto the speaker
output wiring and give you a jack to plug into, you can get balanced
low impedance (for mixing board inputs) or standard 1/4" jacks.
to be honest I don't know how much it would cost.

696.4 | Direct Box | CSC32::G_HOUSE | Greg House - CSC/CS | Tue Jun 28 1988 15:49 | 8 |
| To elaborate a bit, as I understand it, a direct box allows you
to balance impedence between two pieces of equipment that have
incompatible input/output requirements. Some also allow line level
matching.
I've seen several around for under $100 US.

I'm confused. I thought that you could plug into the Pignose's
headphone output to drive another amp. In fact I used to play with
a guy who did just that.

Just Jack in(Guitar) Jack out(headphone ?) and 9v supply (small Jack).
The jack out is on the back of the unit, can't remember what it
is labelled up with.

| BTW my Pignose was given to me by a chap here who is about
to leave Digital London and move to the Boston area.
The Pignose has a 1970(ish) Jeff Beck stage pass for London
Hammersmith odeon on it.
Are 2nd 3rd 4th ! hand Pignose Amps worth anything ? even with
the adition of the sticker ?

696.9 | Pignose 100-7 | ANGORA::JACQUES | | Wed Jun 29 1988 09:04 | 17 |
| You can still buy Pignose amps new. They haven't changed 1 thing
on the Pignose (I'm talking about the small battery powered version.
I think they are called 100-7). Mr. C's sells them for $99.99
I bought mine used for $50 I would think that would be the average
value of a used one in good shape.
Pignoses have 3 jacks on them. The input jack is on the front just
below the volume control. On the back they have a pre-amp output
and a mini-jack for using a 9v power supply. I have plugged the
pre-amp output into my Twin Reverb and it works OK. The sound
still comes through the speaker in the Pignose.
I don't think it would hurt your Yamaha amp. Give it a try.

| I think I remember the ads for the pignose (back when they first
came out) stating that you could use it as a practice amp OR as
a preamp to get low volume distortion sound. I thought that was
supposed to be one of its selling points.

696.11 | Distort me please | BUSY::JMINVILLE | Arthur Dent in another dimension | Wed Jun 29 1988 12:38 | 6 |
| That was/is one of its selling points. Back several years ago,
some guitarists (of renown) used the Pignose in combination with
their regular amps to get a "screamin" distortion (or some such
thing).

| $99 wow what a rip off....you used to be able to buy the actual
amplifier board at Lafayette electronics for $12.95, add a speaker
and a volume pot and you've got a pignose...somebody made megabucks
on that idea...

696.13 | Price is justifyable !! | MORRIS::JACQUES | | Wed Jun 29 1988 15:57 | 32 |
| Most people looking to buy an amp for $100 opt for a Crate, Dean
Markley, Gorrila, etc, but none of them run on batteries. The only
battey powered amps that I know of are the Pignose, Peavey Solo series
amps, and a few years back there was one called the Field-mouse,
but I have never seen one in a store. The thing about the Pignose
that is great is the size and weight. It is so small you can literally
clip it to your belt, or sling it around you neck with a standard
guitar strap.
Years ago I read an interview with Frank Zappa. At the time (around
1978-1980 timeframe) he was using Pignose amps both on stage as
a preamp, and in the studio.
The main complaint I have about my Pignose is cabinet vibrations.
It is so small, and the whole thing hinges in half. It has the
tendency to rattle when you crank it up all the way.
I have used mine for recording onto my Porta-One with much success,
but it doesn't offer you a huge range of tones, since it doesn't
have any eq on it at all. It works good with my Boss CS3 compressor/
sustainor. I am thinking of getting a few more Boss effects to use
with it since they all run off batteries.
I find for the money I paid, ($50 used) I have definately gotten
my money's worth out of my Pignose, and I'm sure I will get several
years of enjoyment out of it. In fact, I am going on vacatoin this
weekend and My Telecaster and Pignose are coming with me, as well
as my Flattop.

In the early 70's, I had a battery powered amp
made by Electro Harmonix called the Mike Matthews Freedom Amp.
That sucker was LOUD. I'm sorry I ever sold it.

696.15 | Wot's my VOX ??? | ODIHAM::JOYCE_A | Andy Joyce, UK.SRAC | Thu Jun 30 1988 05:42 | 10 |
| I've got a battery powered VOX practice amp that I bought from a
friend (who didn't know any better!) for 5. It's pretty basic
(normal/bright i/ps, tone and volume controls) but has got a nice
sound and is loud enough to drown out an acoustic.
I'm not sure what model it is. Other than the "VOX" on the front,
there are no other markings. Any ideas ?

696.16 | An Escort methinks | WARMTH::KAYD | If music be the love of food... | Fri Jul 01 1988 10:02 | 13 |
| Andy,
If this is a battery/mains type of amp (with an old-fashioned looking
switch on the top to select between the two) then I think it's the same as
the one which I have, which is a VOX Escort. I paid more than five pounds
for mine (more like forty-five, and that was *years* ago).
If you have any friends with similar bargains, let me know!!
Regards,
Derek. (SWAS Warrington, UK)
