Yeah, I saw it, even had it on tape (now erased, sorry, rick)
Wasn't too much on the early days other than interviews as not much
existed in the way of film clips (none of Mayall, just a snippet
of Yardbirds).
Best part was the jam with Buddy Guy.

Ah... now see if you lived in England, you would no doubt have watched the whole
Buddy Guy and Eric Clapton set that was shown on "The South Bank Show" about
two weeks after we saw the original program. :-)
It was a special set at Ronnie Scott's and was on for about an hour as I recall.
Keep an eye out for it.

Following on from those early interviews, did anybody listen to the comments
made by Eric and Patti ( Harrison ) about the book that he gave her. Evidently
the book inspired the writing of "Layla" and all I could make out was that it
was called "Layla Imagined" or "Layla and Magnoux (sp)" or something along those
lines. I tried to find out some more but not knowing the title exactly or the
author was a problem.
Anybody know anymore about the original book ?

I can look it up for you. But I won't be in again until Monday,

| I've seen the Carl Perkins special and it's really good (IMO).
Harrison comes out and plays a few tunes. Edmonds plays acoustic
most of the time and just kind of stays in the background (as I
recall), but I think he produced it. There's at least one ex-
Stray Cats member playing on this too as well as Perkins' son.
Ringo plays some drums as well.

Yeah there's gotta be more effects on it. Sounds kinda wheezy to my ears
though. I like Clapton straight up. Like in Forever Man.

| That is a KILLER tone.
To my ears, the distortion sounds like its coming from a box rather
than an amp. I hear a fairly thick chorus, a lot of compression
going on, and I'm pretty sure that a radical EQ setting is a large
part of it.
I've been thinking of trying to get that sound as a learning exercise
for my new guitar processor (GP-16).

Andy & I rented the "Cream of Clapton" video a week or so ago.
Has anyone else seen it? There are some vintage clips of Cream
from UK television, a couple of concert clips from the early to
mid 70s when the group appeared to be quite juiced, and then
many clips from the last 10 years which I thought were excellent.
The high point, to me, was seeing Clapton and Knopfler together,
playing "Wonderful Tonight". For those who like to see lots of
Fender equipment on stage, this video is highly recommended :^}

This is an easy one!
[Guitar w/compression] --> [Flanger] --> [Distortion on amp, or use a
box], --> [Amp]
Simple right? See... I thought so too!
Spoiler here... if you play a Strat type guitar that has a 5 position
switch, use the bridge and middle p/u's together rolling off the tone
for the middle p/u and leave the tone wide open for the bridge p/u.
It works for me! Experiment alittle and go for it!
Rock on,

| Anyone catch the "Rockumentary" on Clapton last night on MTV ? I had
the VCR programmed to tape the unplugged again, screwed up the timer,
and recorded this instead.
Some pretty good stuff. I always thought Clapton was a SG turned strat
man, but old footage showed him playing everything but a Jackson.
Tele's, LP's, big hollow bodies, and of course in later years, strats,
espcially "blackie".
He mentioned how "Badge" got it's name. Seems he and George Harrison
(and some others, Ringo maybe) were sitting around writing. They were
all bouncing silly lyrics around, George was writing them down. They
didn't have a name for this song, and George wrote "Bridge" at the top
of the page. Clapton was sitting across from him, and at a quick glace
(reading it upside down) it looked like "Badge" to him. They had a
good laugh, and the name stuck.
He said his biggest thrills have been playing with the old bluesmen,
like BB King, etc. He's also glad that he was able to shed some light
on those guys via his popularity. Sounds like a real down to earth
guy.

| yeah, I saw it too. Some nice rare footage. Would've liked to
have seen some more of the live Blind Faith concert at Hyde Park
(Clapton playing a sunburst, rosewood board Tele). Anyone know
if that concert is available on video somewhere?
Clapton played a maple board Tele with the Yardbirds; funny how
Clapton, Page, and Beck were all Tele men back then, eh? Think
they were onto something? Eric did his Bluesbreakers stuff with
a flametop Les Paul, and I've seen some early Cream shots with
the same axe. Besides the SG, he used a single pickup Firebird
and an ES-335 in Cream.
Some of the shot sequences gave a good opportunity to compare Eric
playing Blackie vs the new signature Strats. I always thought Eric's
new tone sounded pretty good, but Blackie wins hand down imo.

| OK, the original "studio" version is sorta lame. The version on "Just
One Night" (live) is better. But, the version on "24 Nights", has more
feel than all the others put together. The intro/outro are what set it
off. Plus, he uses some subtle chord changes not featured in previous
versions. This song isn't for everyone, since it has received massive
radio play for zillions of years.

Over the weekend I watched The Unplugged show (got it for my
birthday) and was really impressed. I loved the acoustic blues
stuff. It showed me a side of him that I hadn't seen before and
you just have to respect (whether you like him or not) his talent
at playing the blues on guitar.
During one song the piano player (chuck Levine) played an
absoloutly killer solo, and there acoustic/swing treatment of
Layla (which got played to death on the radio when it first came out)
was refreshing.
Also a funny moment towards the end with the band doing San
Fransisco Bay Blues with washboard and everyone playing Kazoo's!!8^).
