671.0. "Stick?" by MTBLUE::MEYER_TOM (This sentence has no....) Sun Jun 12 1988 22:19

I've been looking for an instrument (not really a guitar but
close enough) since I saw one in San Francisco. I've heard it called
either a stick or a stick bass, and it has ten strings, with just
a neck and some pickups. Does anyone know where I could find one,
how much one costs, and how it is played and tuned?

    Thanks,

    Tom Meyer

A street musician was playing it. He was very good, too.

I never saw a store carrying one, though.

Yeah, I thought that's who you meant! I saw that dude when I was
there too. He played really well, and I liked the sound he got
(he ran it thru a little analog delay).

    Sorry for the tangent!

Hey, this guys getting to be famous....my wife and I saw him
    in SF on our honeymoon!

Back to the topic.....a couple of months back, I saw one
at Steve's Quality Instruments in Danvers. I don't know if
they're a dealer, or if they were selling it used.....nor did
I see a price on it. I'll be going there this week, and can
check on more info for ya.

    That would be nice....

By the way, I think they were invented in San Francisco in the first
place, so it's not surprising that it's a popular place for playing
    them.
