482.0. "NEW PLAYER/OLD GUITAR/CAMP SONGS?" by ABLE::MOSER () Wed Jan 27 1988 00:21

I inherited my brothers guitar, and started taking my FIRST lessons
yesterday! Could anyone tell me if they know of a good BASIC beginning
guitarbook to help supplement my lessons?

Also, if anyone has any information about my "new to me" guitar,
it would be appreciated. It says "Alverez, H. Yari, model CY120"
on the inside, and looks like it has a connection for a cable on

    the bottom.

One last thing, my inspiration for all this is that I am brownie
leader for a troop of girlscouts, and would like a book of folk
or campout type songs with BEGINNER chords so at least I can impress
my 6 year olds this summer at camp!

    thanks all!

I'm in the UK. I bought a book some years ago which was a US
publication. Something like SONGFEST VOL 2 (there's a vol 1
presumably). I think the publisher was a company called HANSEN. It has
about 1001 songs with basic chords and melody line. I can almost
guarantee that any camp song you'd want is in here. It has NEVER failed
me on the odd occasion when I do want the words or chords to some
traditional song. Also, the words have the air of probably being the
true authentic words as opposed to the modern variations.

I'll try and remember to get full details tonight and post them
    here.

I'd suggest you go to a music store and take a look around. I've
seen books specifically for campfire singing.

Alvarez are middle-to-high-end acoustic guitars. The Minor Chord
in Acton carries them (if you're in eastern MA). Most seem priced
in the $500 to $700 range.
