Anybody ever hear of Carlsbro amps? I was at Hampshire Music Co. on rt. 101A in Nashua last week and they stocked a lot of those amps. Until then, I'd never seen one. I tried a few but the one I liked most was the Carlsbro 45S Lead amp. I little noisy but very clear and loud for the price. It made my Gibson Lucille sound quite good---clear and throaty. The amp has two channels, one clear and one overdrive. It has high and low gain inputs, treble, mid, and bass tone controls, reverb, distortion, and a high-end boost switch. When I plugged the guitar into the high gain input, there was a noticable but not too displeasing hum. When I plugged it into the low gain input, the hum nearly disappeared (but ofcourse, some of the volume was gone too). Any comments? I'd like to get some feedback before I blow any more hard-earned money. Thanks, Rob

463.1 | They're from the UK | AQUA::ROST | I feel your innuendo | Thu Jan 14 1988 17:43 | 6 |
Carlsbro has been making amps in the UK for years. I once saw the British band BeBop Deluxe using them. Any UK noters have comments???

The amps are made in the UK and I don't know about the particular model you have tried but Carlsbro were always reliable. I was in a band with a complete PA from Carlsbro and it lasted about three years with no problems. Joe.

Took a long time gettin to this note phew, Carlsbro amps are well liked in the UK, their best Range (for me anyway) is the Sherwood and Sherwood Junior, 50w and 90w respectively designed specifically for Electro/acoustic Guitars. They feature 3 input channels, 1 high gain, 1 low gain and 1 with parametics to cut out all that wooly middle you tend to get with amplified acoustics. Also have reverb (with footswitch), effects loop and an independant tweeter that can be switched on or off as you desire. They sell for uk# 280 and 225 respectively. I dont know much about the rest of their stuff but ive not heard anything bad about them. Gavin(who_is_fed_up_playing_thro_an_HH_pa_amp_and_is_going_to_buy_a_ Sherwood_Junior_next_month)
463.4 | Thumbs up for the Carlsboro Colt 45. | KEEGAN::TURNER | Mon Jul 12 1993 06:28 | 15
I played my Telecaster through a Carlsbro 45 at apractice session the other day, and I was quite impressed. Actually, the model I played through is called the Colt 45, but I presume it's the same amp referred to in the basenote. (Obviously Carlsboro decided to make a 45W amp so that they could then call it "The Colt"!) The reverb/overdrive gave exactly the results I like - nothing too exagerated. Not a flash amp, but very solid. Unlike .0, I don't recall any problem regarding a hum in the high gain input. Wonder what the retail price is... Dom |
