| Heh, Heh, Yeah, you did, in a round about way.
Guess neither one of us has gotten much of an answer, I'd say.

and has won several guitar player awards.

While out to lunch I picked up a John Williams CD of Bach
and two other classical composers, but haven't listened to
it yet. I remember my mom having some really incredible
Scarlatti played by Julian Bream.
You might look into trying to find Steve Hackett's "Bay of
Kings"; it's not exactly classical, but it's all acoustic
instrumental guitar work. It's got a new version of "Horizons"
done on a stereo nylon string (half the strings in each channel).
I highly recommend it, especially if you can find the CD.
(It took me 4 months and three cities in three different states!)

I wonder if you picked up the same CD as I? The recording
is John Williams and Academy of St. Martin-In-The-Fields
doing Bach's Violin Concerto No. 2, Handel's Organ Concerto,
Op. 4, No. 5 and Marcello's Oboe Concerto.
The recording is quite good and shows off Williams talent
very well, indeed. This was the third CD I purchased after
getting my player. Great sound and performance.
It's on CBS Masterworks, catalogue #MK 39560.

Do you know if he did the transcriptions himself?

169.7 | My guess...yes | DONNER::STEWART | | Mon Apr 13 1987 20:53 | 9 |
| Judging from the liner notes I would have to guess that the
transcriptions are Williams'. Even though credit isn't given
explicitly to Williams the liner notes talk about the history
of the music specifically and make mention of the various
transcriptions of the composers that give the guitarist a wealth
of melodic and harmonic material to draw upon when making his
own transcriptions.

169.8 | finally... an answer? | BPOV10::LEAHY | | Thu Jun 04 1987 11:07 | 8 |
| hi - sorry if this information won't help you now, but I'm new here
and am just catching up. Try the Ben Franklin Bookstore on Main
St. in Worcester (right next to Mechanics Hall). I haven't been
there in a few years myself, but if memory serves me correctly,
they've got a strong array of kick-ass classical guitar records.

169.9 | Remembranza by Michael Lorimer | CLT::ZEHNGUT | | Fri Jun 26 1987 15:03 | 7 |
| One of my favorite classical guitar recordings is "Remembranza"
by Michael Lorimer. It is on the Windham Hill label, so you will
probably find it in the "New Age" section, but it is strictly a
selection of classical pieces, all of which are very well done.
I can listen to it for hours. Highly recommended.
