| I've heard Marc at Mr C's (on main st Marlboro) is pretty good.
Seen people who have gone to him seem to come back with a good
knowledge of theory, and chops.

131.2 | Jim Nelson... | PARSEC::MELENDEZ | | Tue Dec 23 1986 14:46 | 10 |
| I take lessons with Jim Nelson. He works out of Cosmos Valente music
studios in Marlboro. I like Jim because he can do anything you want
to learn. I have done a little of rock, blues and classical. If
you got the music, he will be able to teach it to you.
If you want to find the phone number look under Cosmos Valente.
I do not remember whether is Valenti or Valente. His place is on
Framingham Rd in Marlboro.

131.3 | Well... | CAM1::ZNAMIEROWSKI | These go to 11... | Tue Dec 23 1986 15:18 | 11 |
| Only problem with Jim is that he tends to teach in a very slow manner.
What I learned with Jim in a year, Marc could have taught in 2 months.
Not knocking Jim, he's a great guy, but a tad slow. Was with him
for a year and hadn't reached a book yet. He tends to want to teach
you a tune you know, so you can go and show your friends you can
play "Night Moves" (an example) but you still don't know theory.
Perhaps he's changed. I stopped lessons about a year and a half
ago. I'll be quiet now.

131.4 | Take control... | PARSEC::MELENDEZ | | Wed Dec 24 1986 10:01 | 17 |
| Ref .3 I have not had any problems like those with Jim. I am going
at my own speed. I think that he has had a hard time getting used
to me. I have control of the lesson. I tell him what we are doing
today which may not have anything to do with what we did the previous
lesson.
As far as theory goes, get a book and read it. I went to the Marlboro
library and got a book on theory. Go to the childern section that
is where I found the books I wanted, none technical books.
The problem that I had with Jim was that he would start playing
and go into never never land while YOU are paying for it. I told
him not on my time.
By the way, happy holidays and looking forward to a better new year
for all.

131.5 | Steve Cancelli | FDCV20::CUMMINGS | | Wed Dec 24 1986 14:37 | 8 |

I just started with Steve Cancelli in Worchester, and he's great.
He'll just get you started with, "what are you working on ?", which
is good if you want immediate attention on a particular area. He's
pretty much a straight ahead jazz player, and a great one at that!

131.7 | GUITAR TEACHERS IN NH???? | GEMINI::JOHNSON | | Thu Jan 21 1988 10:18 | 13 |

I live and work in the Southern New Hampshire area. I was wondering
if anyone out there knows of a good instructor for jazz and blues
on the intermediate level, and for a reasonable price.
I stopped taking lessons about a year ago and am looking to get
back into them.
Any help?
Thanks.

131.8 | You too can learn to play as well as Dan | DREGS::BLICKSTEIN | Dave | Mon Jan 25 1988 16:44 | 10 |
| Dan Dube and I have both taken lessons from Eric Kluck. He used
to give lessons at Progris Music in Nashua, but last I heard he's
at Sierra Music in Methuen right off Rt. 28.
I think it's worth the drive for you considering your interest in
jazz and blues, and your level of playing. It's really hard to
find good effective teachers for that kind of music at that level
of playing.

Thanks, Dave. It's a dubious honor at best.
I second the motion on Eric Kluck. Excellent teacher. I wish I had the
time for lessons, because he is definitely a great player and more
importantly, a great teacher.
