97.1 | Guitar jazz in Framingham | GUMDRP::KELLYJ | | Tue Nov 18 1986 09:02 | 16 |
| Emily Remler appears at the Matrix this week (Thursday through
Saturday). Two shows each night; something like $8 per show. She'll
have a trumpet player and bass and drums, so it should be an
interesting little ensemble.
The Matrix is located inside the Crown Plaze (Crown Royale?) hotel,
Rte. 9, Framingham. It's in the middle of the 'miracle mile' of
shopping centers and movie theaters; it's on the south side of rte.
9.
Emily plays jazz on a ES335. She's an excellent player and I expect
it to be a good show.
Adios,

| Emily's got an archtop these days, maybe a Borys? See my note in
the music file for a mini-review. Terrific show.

| Emily plays a Borys; she said they're made in Vermont. She also
stated they (Borys) are giving her another guitar, built more along
the lines of an L-5 Gibson.
The trumpet player was hot, wasn't he?
I'm the sound engineer at the Matrix (and an avid guitar player!)
so I'll be sure to keep everyone posted regarding the lineup of
artists.

| Yeah, the trumpet was hot! If you did the sound, my compliments.
The Matrix did not look like an easy place to get a good balance
in.

| Well, thanks for the tip of the hat...you're right: it's not the
best hall for sound. In addition, because the management at the
Matrix wants to provide 'atmosphere', they don't want the typical
mix position set up in the house. So...the mixer lives behind(!)
the stage right speaker. Way to go 8^)
Fortunately, the band was professional and had good control of dynamics
and balance...made my job a lot easier.
