47.0. "Your Equipment?" by BIMVAX::ZNAMIEROWSKI (These go to 11...) Wed Sep 10 1986 21:54

Me again...After reading all these notes, I'm wondering what everybody
has for equipment. I've noticed that a lot of you have more than
one axe, so, not trying to be nosy or anything, I wondered what
everyone has. I guess then I'll start off with my meager collection.

Ibanez '83 strat shaped "blazer" w/ soon to be installed Duncans
and Kahler
Dean Markley Spectra 80A amp w/30 watts of Raw Power ;-)
Ibanez Metal Screamer Distorsion
Korg Chorus/Flanger
4 black cords.

Please reply, my other note did so well, I'd feel like a slug if
this one didn't! ;-)

I have a Fender Stratocaster serial number 561434 (can anybody date this for
me?) customized with 3 DiMarzio high output pickups and electronics of my
own design. My amp is a Peavey Studio Pro (30 watts). For effects I have a
DOD PDS-1000 1-second digital delay pedal.

On the acoustic side of things I have a National resophonic steel guitar
(vintage 1930's). Also a Yamaha classical guitar, which I lent to my brother
years ago.

In the non-guitar department I have a Yamaha KX88 MIDI keyboard controller
and a Roland MKS-20 Digital Piano sound module, as readers of COMMUSIC might
remember. Also a Bundy student-oriented flute, and a locally made violin
(vintage 1905) which needs some work.

Re. Don's dod digital delay.

real neat! I tried it and it has 2 outputs, 1 delay output
and 1 "clean" output so....you can have both outputs going to
2 different amps and have 1 delayed and 1 clean or with chorus
or whatever and sound like 2 guitars playing the same stuff only
different.
cute.

re: .9, .10

I have no idea why more delays don't have both a bypass output and
an effect output. Having both of those means gives you a lot of
flexibility on how you do true stereo delay.

Last time I surveyed the rack mounted DDLs, almost none of them
had that.

Perhaps this should be in the toys note, but since everyone's talking
about effects I'll pose this question.

How about rack mounted multi-effects units? I was using the new
Ibanez guitar-synth thingy and that was run through the Ibanez
(Ivebeenhad? Ar, Ar.) digital multi-effects unit, can't remember
the model #. Pretty interesting.

As for the geetar synth:

^^^^ IT SUCKED!!! ^^^^ the most bloody unresponsive thing in the
world!!! Argh!! It's horrible! if you play faster than 1 note
per 1/2 second, you start losing notes in the fracas.

Ahem. Enough of my babble.

RE: DDL's My Ibanez has two wet outputs one is "inverted" and one
dry out....it can be quite useful when mixing for a recording.

RE: Guitar synths.....don't be so hard on Ibanez ALL early guitar
synths had the response problem and most (all) still do, even the
guitar to MIDI converters that are beginning to make the market.
It's not easily solvable. Guitar synths haven't come into their
own yet, the conversion hardware is just too slow and may be for
quite a while yet. If you listen to Adrian Belew or any other guitar
synth player you'll find they do mostly slower stuff because of
this problem. I figure if the pros don't have it, it doesn't exist
yet.

Other than the delayed attack how did it sound?

47.16Dating a Strat (!)CGHUB::IBBETTOIS Performance GroupTue Sep 30 1986 19:4348
Re 47.9 (dating Don's Strat)...

OK, here we go...

Serial # 561434

1st reference I checked cites the date range of 9/73 through 9/76
for Serial #s in the 500000s.

2nd reference narrows it down some to 74/75, probably 75 as the
number is late-ish in the 500000 series.

If it has the number stamped on the neck plate (kinda triangular
with round edges and 3 screw fixing) it is certainly no later than
75 [from '76 on the number was found on a decal on the headstock,
and the numbering scheme changed].

Other ways to date it (or confirm the date, or confirm that all
the bits are original)...

The date is often on the underside of the pickups, penciled on early
models, stamped on later. It is also often found on the bottom end
of the neck, right under the truss rod adjusting screw (unless it's
a tilt-neck model which doesn't have a screw there), or rubber-stamped
on the neck heel. Examples:-

ser # 254083 (neck date = june 69) with pickup code 1289 (9=69)
ser # 528763 (no neck date) with pickup code 140574 (74=74)

Another common placement fore a serial # is in the middle pickup
cavity - this one should be the same as on the neck plate.

If you can find any other numbers such as those I have indicated
above, this could further date the guitar. Some numbers also indicate
the neck width, finish, etc.

One further clue (the last I promise!) is the color of the pickguard.
The STANDARD pickguard for pre-75 was a white triple-decker
(white/black/white), but 75 through 81 was black (black/white/black).
The white was an OPTION however. The body color is also a clue -
all colors were only available during certain years...unless it's
a 3-tone sunburst...

There are other details like pickup cavity routing shape, etc....

Jimi.

re .17 - dating Fender Amps.

Someone offered my Pro Reverb a drink once...didn't work. If fact,
judging from the sparks and smoke it was somewhat offended. SO WAS
I. The speaker cloth still has the stains...

Seriously, I will dig into my references and refresh my memory.
If I recall, the date is often pencilled/stamped onto the amp chassis
(mine was). Undo the 4 screws on the top and slide the chassis out.
Look on the inside (non-tube side) of the chassis.

Other vague memories are...

Type of amp - most were only made during certain years.
Type/color/texture of speaker cloth.

I'll check inti it all...

Jimi.

re.20
Actually, as i've stated 4 or 15 times, I'm happy with my
marshall but would prefer a boogie.
My marshall has a great marshall sound and a great clean sound
that i can add effects to. limited.
the boogie has so many more sounds that it is definitely more
valuable and enticing.
I play heavy metal. I like heavy metal
I also play and like most other sounds...up to and including
classical. but not jazz.
the boogie is good for all these sounds, but the marshall is
limited.
the marshall doesn't cost me any more money. virtually free.
the boogie would cost 1000-13000 bucks.
virtually impossible.

i used to be unhappy with cheaper amps.
i may not have the best amp but it's at least nice and
i'm happy with it.

Re: Ibanez Guitar Synth
Sorry it took so long. the question was how did it sound aside
from an attack problem, so here goes. I guess it really depends
on the synth you're tied into (i.e. Casiotone=crap, Oberhiem=nice,
I'd imagine). I was playing through a Casio CZ1 and there are a
couple usable patches, but on the whole, not too awe inspiring.
Good Hammond organ, and a pipe organ.(D minor sounds delicious!)
Had people in the store looking about for an organ, and much to
their dismay, there wasn't one.
The tremolo bar on that was wierd. Worked on some sort of arcane
electronics, where by the string tension didn't vary, but pitch
did. another problem was that bending a string, whether with your
hand or by bar, wasn't a smooth glissendo, it would go up(or down)
on very noticable choppy half-steps. Not too good.

Well lets see, it's strange. Kind looks like a Mockingbird but
it has a 3 peice lamenated neck that goes from top of the
head stock to the bottom of the body. Then the ears/side pieces
are sandwhiched on.

The body it's self is three piece sandwich, and is a double cutaway.
(Kinda like a strat, but more really like a mocking bird)
They come stock with a three way active pre-amp, that with
nosoak, can give up to a 45 DB boost. NO SHIT ON THIS. If
you have an amp with channel switching, and are in the clean
side. Don't hit the preamp switch, your amp WILL jump off the
floor about 6 feet. (Sound man nightmare) If you use the gain
side of the amp, it ofcourse soaks off, and the boost is perfect
for use on leads. Never have to touch your volume pot.

The pickups are the Ibanez TRI77 sderies and I think that their
the hotest stock pickups I've every played. And to top it off
their nice and quite.

This line was hand built. And only made in like 1977. They are hard
to find, rare, and expensive. Mine listed for 1,495 back when I
got it in 77. Oh yeah, there heavy too ! Wicked heavy.

You see em now and then in the want adds. I think people generally
paid any where between 800 and 950 for them when they were new back
in 77

They can be had second hand, unmodified for around 500 to 600
dollars. With a Kahler or a rose, there about a grand. And worth
it. There a trip when you first get em cause the frets are really
fat. I traded in a gold top for it, and talk about culture shock getting
used to it.

If your near the Shrewsbury area, stop by Joies first two weeks in
Nov. We'll be playing there those two weeks, and you can take a
look at it, try it, what eva !

I've had a lot of people offer to *take it off my hands* Thanks,
but my hands love it. ;-) /ray

47.32My Kahler isn't *THAT* goodDREGS::BLICKSTEINDaveFri Oct 17 1986 15:0515
Well I like my Kahler (my problems with the Floyd system revolve
around the "feel"), but unlike you guys, if I am reasonably agressive
the guitar will definitely go out of tune. Dive Bombing is guaranteed
to do that. Even doing the Van Halen "whining horse" thing is likely
to screw up the tuning a little. Any tune that involves a lot of
whammy bar stuff usually causes me to have to retune.

Is it possible that mine is out of adjustment.

I will say, though that for normal playing, the thing just doesn't
go out of tune, even if I'm doing a lot of bending.

On the other hand, it may be that I'm just overly sensitive to tuning.

47.33Why can't I dive bomb on an Fmaj7b5?DREGS::BLICKSTEINDaveFri Oct 17 1986 15:1110
That reminds me of a complaint I have about whammy bars.

At least on the guitars I've tried, any aggressive bending has to be
done on a harmonic and NOT a fretted note. Fretted notes just
die pretty quickly if you do anything more than a vibrato.

Anyone know of any solutions, ideas, tricks etc. that involve getting
around this limitation?

and such. I find as you ease off, it obviously stays in longer.
Only problem I have is with mine, at least, that different strings
only go certain steps(i.e. High e=2 frets, b=3 frets, g=7 frets,
etc, etc) Don't know why, but I know I can't bend chords which kinda
bothers me.

Dave I have a suggestion. Perhaps you've already used
this.

There is a product out called magic lube. If you dont
have a tube of this stuff, I highly recommend getting some.
One of the problems in tuning trouble with Kahlers, (not
sure about Roses..) is that the rollers hang up if not
kept lubricated. Lubricate the rollers, than put a drop
on each string at the roller and at the nut. This has made a
big difference in the performance of my kahler. I'll be honest.
I beat on mine. ALOT. and the only time I have tuning
trouble is when the heel of my hand rubs the low e string tuning pin.

If the magic lube doesn't help, I would take the ax to someone
who installs them, and have an adjustment check done on it.

A few people I know have had them installed since using mine,
and have not had these problems. (Mcduffs has installed all
of them)

As far as the sustaining problems. How low is your action ?
Or, have you try to bring it up just a little. I also don't
have this problem. My action is low, but if I try to get it
lower, it seems to effect the sustaining performance. The
tolerance level is tight on these whammys. You have to keep
that in consideration. My action is just a squeak higher than
before I put the Kahler on. Not even noticeable when you play
it, but very noticable on how the ax perfomrs with the kahler.

Wether it's a harmonic ring, or a straight fretted note, the
kahler on my ax pulls it down. It's nice beacuse as you get
down, a real nice lowend harmonic comes out and follows the note.
You should expect the same out of yours. What kind of ax
do you have this Kahler on ? Who installed it ?

Those are good suggestions. I seem to recall that depressing the
bars does lower the strings a tad.

I haven't lubricated anything on the guitar since I bought it.
My guitar is a Carvin DC200 Koa. I bought it about 3.5 years
ago.

One modification I know I'm going to make to the Kahler is to replace
the clamp at the nut with one that doesn't require an allen wrench.
Carvin said they'd do this at cost (about $20). The newer Carvins
have ones with clamps that don't reuqire any tools. A *BIG*
advance over the previous (stupid) design. Many is the time
I've been stuck without an allen wrench (very easy to lose) and
got a broken string, or a string that couldn't be brought in tune
with the fine tuning adjustment.

Oh yea Dave, one more little thing. After you lube the rollers,
(with out stings on the ax,) spin the rollers a few times around.
This will assure smooth operation of the brass rollers.

Carvin says they have a clamp for behind the nut that has tabs you
flip up. I'm not sure that they are actually made by Kahler but
who cares?

The newer Floyd Roses seem to have the same kind of thing, but I'd
still rather stick with a Kahler bridge setup.

I didn't like the locking nut (for exactly the reasons mentioned

I used to do that with my 12-string, but it didn't stay in tune up the
neck. I guess it had something to do with the amount of pressure you
put down on the larger string to fret the smaller harmonic string.

You have any problems with (solutions to?) that?

I don't have a Fender of Gibson Electric either. But I do own an

Yes Dave, We Carvin owners are few but satisfied. I think between
myself and one other guitarist in Colorado Springs, we monopolize
the Carvin market in this geographical area. He, by the way, has
a DC200 KOA as you do.

I have a DC150M, maple body with a double cutaway, a bit smaller
than the 200 though. I believe the electronics are similar between
the 200 and the 150. (11 pole, coil tap, etc.) The fretboard is
maple w abalone dot inlay, 24 fret with the "Gibson" style head
piece. (Not the arrow type as on the 135 or V220 models.) I am VERY
pleased with both the feel and speed of the neck as well as the
response of the electronics. (The sustain is the best in the West)

I have not had the chance to try the guitar in stereo yet but it
does have that option as does the 200 if I'm not mistaken.

The DC 200 Koa does have stereo outputs.

I thought I'd never ever use them until I started using a two amp
setup. Now, I find it's the easiest way to switch between the two
amps. Only problem is that at the moment, I sometimes have to
switch the plugs (cause I want pickup A going to amp B and pickup
B going to amp A instead of vice versa). Sometimes I even pull
the second plug out completely when I want both pickups going to
the same amp.

I'm switching over to using a pan pedal as soon as I can find one
that does what I want.

The DC200 Koa has a rosewood neck with block inlays. I ordered
my guitar with ALL the available options (Kahler unit, gold plating,
etc.)

I really like my guitar. It feels comfortable, sounds good to me,
looks good to me, and has a very wide range of tones.

I've been reading this note for a while so I thought I would enter
a note. I have only been playing for about 4 months but, this is
a list of my equipment...

Guitars

1988 Fender Squier Strat ( I love the neck on this guitar)
1981 Gibson Les Paul

Don't have any effects yet but, I am working on it.

I've made reply .58 obsolete already, I've sold the majority of
what was listed and bought much new gear. Here's an update that
I've tried to keep simple.

Guitars: B.C.Rich ST-III thunder blue w/lightning bolt inlays
Gibson Les Paul showcase edition - grayburst w/EMG's
Ovation '88 collectors edition elect/acoustic

Amps: ALL KITTY HAWK (amps, preamps, and speaker cabs)

M1 100 watt STACK (two 4X12 cabs)
` M3 60 watt combo (1X12 w/hardwood cabinet)

RACK #1 - KH Testarossa preamp
KH MIDI patch bayette I
Korg DT-1 pro tuner
ART SGE multieffector
Metaltronix SP1000 stereo pwr amp

RACK #2 - KH Quattro preamp
KH MIDI patch bayette I
Roland GP-8
(rack #2 is a back-up/ no power amp yet)

Either rack can work with the combo or
the stack because the patch bayette's
switching system is identical in all KH
amps and preamps! Plus rack #1 works on
its own with the 4X12 cabs or a KH 1X12 cab.

Truely amazing. The dog hasn't been the same since.

He was last seen wearing spiked bracelets, and a jet black

Why not? Here's mine: (I like to think of it as small, but quality)

Amp: Boogie Mark-IIC 1x12 Combo, Simul-Class, All the options, EV
Speaker
Guitar: '72 Strat (Originally White, Laquer faded to yellow), '80
rosewood neck, '80 pickups
FX: Cry-Baby Wah, Boss T-wah, Boss Analog Delay, Passive volume pedal

Almost never use the FX.

Only drawback: I thought I was buying a little portable amp when I
bought the Boogie, sheesh, that thing weighs almost 80 pounds, but it
will really bend your ears back if you need it to!

Wishes (realistic): Would like to have a little tube Marshall for that
one certain sound to augment the setup, but I wouldn't take it in place
of the Boogie.

Just a rock and roller at heart, nothin' too fancy, although I really
get off on the high tech stuff too!

Guitars (electric):

Fender Strat (late 70s hardtail, EMG actives, Grey)
Hamer Scarab(sp?) (shaped kind of like a small Explorer, Candy Red,
but soon to be completely refinished, Kahler)
Ibanez Les Paul copy (pretty beat up, Dimarzio MegaDrive in the
bridge, sounds killer)

Guitars (acoustic):

Alvarez 6 string, Alvarez Classical, Fender small bodied steel string
Noname classical (cheap)

Basically nothing special, they all have laminate tops...

How's this for variety? I'm a bassist by trade, but I enjoy making
music on all these:

1987 Peavey Dyna-Bass (active electronics)

19?? Lazer Strat copy. A surprisingly good-sounding clone, purchased
used for a mere $99!

1978 Ovation Custom Balladeer. Purchased new, it is the oldest
member of my family....

198? Takamine "D-18"-style 12-string. Looks and sounds a lot like
the Martin 12, bought for $125 used a few years ago.... 8-)

1979 Sho-Bud LDG model pedal steel. I had purchased a twin-neck
Emmons in '76, and swapped with another steel player to get
the loaded E9th setup. This is a basic Lloyd Green steel (3
pedals, 4 knee levers) with a Bill Lawrence pickup in place
of the stock Sho-Bud, so it sounds very much like the Emmons!

For amps, I have a little Marlboro 210 for practice, and a Peavey
Combo 300 + an extra 15" cabinet.

Well, now that I have my guitar and amp, I guess I can join the ranks
here officially...

EQUIPMENT:	Ibanez Deluxe 59er Les Paul Copy
Peavey Special 130 Guitar Amp
Ovation Custom Balladeer Acoustic/Electric

Lotsa keyboards and PA equipment

EXPERIENCE:	I've played in bands from the time I was in fourth grade
(trombone) and have played guitar since about the same time.
My first non-school-type band was in my teens when I joined
and eventually began leading a vocal group, playing guitar
or piano for accompaniment. I studied piano in college, but
eventually dropped it because I was undisciplined and wanted
only to make the kind of music I enjoyed.

I've played in mild-rock bands, country/bluegrass bands, even
a jazz band. At one time I was the music director of a
travelling drama team with a band (consisting of drums, bass,
keyboards and guitars), playing whatever instrument (except
drums) was necessary for a given show (it was a gruelling
schedule and not everybody could make every show).

Four years ago, or so, I got into MIDI and synthesizers. It's
been just about that long for me to put it all into perspective
as far as what *I* want to do with all that potential. I've
more or less settled into using MIDI (sequencer, drum machine,
synthesizer modules) to be my back-up band, while I do solo
shows at churches, coffeehouses, etc. I still occasionally
play in bands, but having a house/family/job has minimized my
ability to do it with any regularity.

GOALS: To come up with some goals...

Actually, my goals are fairly simple. I know I'm no virtuoso
on either keyboards or guitar. But what I do have going for me
is an ear for what sounds good. I like coming up with
arrangments using the tools I have. If it gets too complex, I
tend to lose interest. I recognize this as a defficiency, but
then again, I'm not trying to make a living off music - just
personal enjoyment and using music as a tool for communicating
my beliefs.

tone. Nice thing is that this has a line out in
the back so running it through a mixing board
would be easy.

electronics, single to dual coil plus phase.
Maple neck with rosewood finger board. Not bad
for my first rebuild. (Scratch plate was made

1966 (approx) Kalamazoo Electric Bass Guitar.
Still in original condition. I will be
rebuilding this bass to be the exact copy of the
six string above. I'll be installing active
electronics in this one, cause right now, it's
fine as a thumper, but there's very little
sustain and clarity out of this due to the
original electronics.

It's not much, but I'm just starting out:

Guitars: 1 - beat-up crappy looking Fender Strat
1 - very well liked Lead Paul
1 - well loved Fender bass
1 - beat up Ovation Custom something-or-other
acoustic/electric but sounds nice... I guess

Amp:	1 - P-word something with tubes that's pretty cool!
1 - P-word bass amp that's really loud

Effects:	Yes, but they're all these analog things that go on the
floor... probably not worth much, but sound cool when
the batteries run down.

Etc:	Lots of broken cables, but a few good ones.

Wants:	New batteries

Amps - I just got a new Fender "the Twin". I still have a Fender Super
Six reverb, until it's sold. I've owned a bunch of amps over the
years. The one I liked least was a Kustom, and every time I hear a
transistor amp, I'm reminded of how far they've come since I had one.
(I heard a Crate that was pretty impressive)

Guitars - Fender Strat original issue with two dual coil humbuckers. I
installed Dimarzio Super distortion HB's into it. A traditional Strat
with a Seymore Duncan 1/4 pounder and a Dimarzio hs2 (?). Old Guild
Starfire V that I put the two Fender Strat dual coil hbs on to.
Takamine twlve String.

Bass - Gibson Epiphone Rock Bass. I replaced the pickups with Dimarzio
Jazz Bass PUs. Great sounding and playin bass!

Misc - Digitech Programmable Distortion box, Digitech Digital delay,
DOD Stereo Chorus, Crybaby Wah Wah.

Also one wife who gets pissed off whenever I mention more equipment!

That was a really nice axe!! I looked at it and looked at it.
I inquired about the price on two separate occasions. The first
time it was still on consignment from the original owner and was
$X. The second time, it had been purchased by the store and the
price had gone up to $X+. I came very close to buying it, but

>> Hey Mark, you forgot to mention the Peterbilt you use to haul the stuff
>> around in...it's pre-CBS aint it?

Actually, although the list may be long, I have been striving
for portability, and in reducing the amount of space consumed in
my small home studio. I just dumped a pre-CBS Fender Dual Showman
speaker cab, which was gigundo, and another Twin. The four biggest
pieces in my arsenal are the PA rack, the Fender Twin, and the two
Klipsch speakers. A lot of gigging musicians haul a lot more stuff
than that. I plan to dump the 14-space rack later on and replace it
with two smaller racks. At that point my PA system will be reduced
to the mixer, and the EQ in one rack, and a power amp in another.
The rest will be in another rack configured for playing electric
guitar. Although I have 5 guitars, I would never travel with more
than 3, tops. My recording equipment never leaves the studio. When
I need to move this gear, I take my Dodge Caravan. Everything fits
in quite nicely by removing the rear seat.

It might be interesting for people to post their wish lists !!
I have one that is by far longer than the list of gear I presently
own. I have one list I call my "equipment priority list". This is a
list of equipment I fully intend to buy when I have the money. I
regularly update this list depending on equipment demos and ads I
see in magazines. Also as my musical goals change, the list changes.
A lot of the big items on my present list is road cases and racks.
I like to replace the mousy-stuff in my rig with pro-quality stuff
that I know I will keep for years.

Perhaps we should start a new note entitled "Musical Equipment
wish-list". It might be interesting for people to post their lists,
and see what advice others have to offer. Whadaya think ??

47.131Still more "Improvements" have been madeVOYAGR::JACQUESIf you don't stop, you'll go deafTue Jul 31 1990 13:0344
I have added a few new toys to my setup.

First of all, I have added a Boss NS2 single-ended noise suppressor
to my BCB6 carry box to eliminate noise from single coil pickups, and
the compressor.

Secondly, I bought 2 more Boss FS5L footswitches and a Hosa 8
channel recording snake. The snake is 23' long, and all the conductors
are color coded with 1/4" jacks on both ends.

I now have 6 Boss footswitches ganged together. The 6 Boss switches
control the following functions:

FS5L - defeats the reverb in the Peavey 701R mixer.
FS5L - defeats the Alesis MidiVerbII.
FS5U - punch-in pedal for Tascam Porta one.
FS5L - channel switches the Mesa Boogie Studio preamp.
FS5L - defeats the reverb in the Mesa Boogie Studio preamp.
FS5L - defeats the EQ in the Mesa Boogie Studio preamp.

5 channels of the recording snake are used to connect foot switches
to my rack. One channel connects the punch-in pedal to my Porta one. 1
channel is used to connect my guitar signal into the preamp input. That
leaves one spare channel on the snake in case I eventually add anything
to the rack. I assigned 6 adjacent jacks on the front of my patchbay to
plug the snake into.

I plan to replace all the connectors on one end of the snake cable
with Switchcraft angled 1/4" jacks. When I do, I will cut the outer
insulation back and fan all the cables to form a perfect connection to
all my pedals. At that point both ends of the recording snake will be
neat as a pin.

I have more gear on the floor than most players would tolerate, but I
am striving to have everything integrated into a system with the cabling
as neat as humanly possible. Since I hardly ever play out, I really don't
have to worry about moving all this gear. When I do play out, the foot-
switches and recording snake will be left home.

I'm beginning to understand whay many people are using midi-patch bays
and midi floor pedals.

"dawg...Hey baby come over here and look at this terminal an just see
for yourself what all the other boys got for equipment. All I got for
guitars:

Strat - Classic cream, Jap model circa '85. Maple neck with a SD 1/4
pounder, a DiMarzio Hs-2, and a Fender Red Lace Sensor for pickups.

Strat - Black w/ black hardware. 2 dual coil pickups that I
replaced with DiMarzio Super Distortion Humbuckers. A rare guitar I
think, I've never seen one like it before. It's stock too, I checked it
out. Made in Japan mid eighties.

Gibson Epiphone Bass - 2 DiMarzio pickups.

Guild Starfire V Semi Hollow body. Currently, the pickups that came
with my black Strat are installed in this guitar. I don't play it much
anymore but keep it really for sentimental reasons. It was
my first real guitar (bought new in '68). As I get older and play more
jazz, it'll hopefully be more useful.

excellent guitar. I've had it about 11 years now.

47.143my turn again...STLACT::EATONThu Oct 25 1990 12:1451
I've made some changes too, so I'll follow the current trend and
update (using my previous posting).

EQUIPMENT:	Ibanez Deluxe 59er Les Paul Copy
Ovation Custom Balladeer Acoustic/Electric

ZOOM 9002 Guitar FX processor (& headphone amp)
RAT distortion pedal, RealTube Blue Tube Pedal, Boss Analog
Delay Pedal, Boss CE3 Stereo Chorus Pedal, Boss OC2 Octave
Pedal

Lotsa keyboards, PA equipment and now, recording equipment

I recognize this as a defficiency, but
then again, I'm not trying to make a living off music - just
personal enjoyment and using music as a tool for communicating
my beliefs.

Guitars:

Axe 1: Ibanez Saber in highlighter yellow. Twin IBZ hums.

Axe 2: Ibanez Roadstar in highlighter yellow. Twin hums, one single.

Both these guitars are set up exactly the same way. I detest floating
bridges because I end up spending more time tuning than playing. I
installed my own ( patented! ) backstops in each of them. I can still
dive down ( not that I ever even have the arm piece installed let
alone use it. ) but I can pull and yank up with no noticable change
in pitch.

Amps:
Fender Stage 185 1x12 185 watts parallel channel.
Musicman 4x12 cab
Peavey Audition practice amp.

Toys:
Roland GP16
Zoom 9002
Korg Tuner

Everything else is on sale.

I use the Saber/GP16/Fender for rehearsal/gigs. The Saber is really my favorite
axe. I just have this sixth sense when I play it. Everyone has at least one Axe
they can play in their sleep, and this one's mine. The GP16 I use mostly for
subtle patches. I have a couple distortion patches and a couple varieties of
reverb and delay. The lead patches go into the lead channel on the fender.
I tuirn the treble way down on the lead channel because it's LOUD! what? I SAID
IT'S LOUD! I still use my ears to tune. The tuner is for a reference.

The Roadstar/Zoom/Peavey I use for practice at home and Jamming with friends.
I bring the Roadstar to gigs for backup. It's a little more bulky and harder
to move around with, but it's great in a pinch.

Still need: A rack of some kind. I'm still lugging around the GP16 in the box.

This is fun......

I am involved in a one of band for a one off gig to raise money
for charity, and the lead guitarist in my fav local band insisted
that I use his rig...

This was great as on Friday night I was rehersing with:

ADA MP1
DSP 128+
JCM 9000
Some sorta midi mixer
2x 4x12 marshalls

PROBLEM:

It sounded like sh*t for the stuff I was doin'.

I ended up using my own stomp boxes, his split 50/50 marshall head,
and 1 4x12... Much better sound!

Midi Rack Puke (tm to jc) ain't the be all and end all of fx!

ps was glad for the chance but the simply didn't fit with what I
was playing, and I didn't want to screw up his patches!

Bonzo, you were brave to come forward. My problem was that I was
always screwing up my own patches until they all sounded the same
(well, sort of).

47.178can you get by on some cheap stuff...?MOOV01::DERRICOStuck between Iraq & a hard placeFri Feb 15 1991 12:4179
So... Like I've been hanging around this conference for a coupla
Yeah's now. I still haven't been through half the notes yet...
I guess I could at least put something about my equipment.

Here went...

My current setup is:

* SWR SM-400 head - Tube preamp with solid state out's.
(400 W bridged) has the option to go stereo and bi-amped.
Has 5-band parametric eq w/ bass & treble boost. Also
has mono_out - stereo_in effects loop.

* SWR Goliath cab - 4x10's with tweeter. This is a killer
set-up. This has a pad control for the tweeter - and can
be really bright without padding.

* Traynor 40watt practice amp. Still use it. Bass-Mid-Treble
controls, headphone jack, and preamp I/O jack.

* Washburn XS-4 bass. This is a low end bass for them, but
I found a sound that I wanted out of it, I got my money's
worth. It has active electronics and the ability to bypass
them with a pull-type switch on the tone control.
I'm using Rotosound regular guage strings - they are the
only ones so-far to have the longest life. I really don't
care if they dig up my fret board, they've got the tone
that I want. The pickups are a P/J combination.
This is my main bass (so far).

* G&L 1000/2000 (mixed parts) bass. I bought this used at
MacDuff's. I use this still, mostly for practice. I'm
Rotosound Hybrids on this for the slappability jazz sound.
It doesn't have the original pickups in it. I currently
am using a Duncan Jazz humbucking at the bridge, and a
Duncan Hawkbucker in the center. The Hawkbucker looks
like a dual bladed humbucker - made for bass.

* Rickenbacker 4001 - from wayback. Buck might remember this
one. I have modified it with an older DiMarzio ?? (Probably
an older EB replacement.) with the pole screws removed.
I'm also using Flat-Wound (<---remember that word?) strings
for that older plunky sound. I still use this from time
to time!

* Fender acoustic guitar - used to be a rental from the Minor
Chord. It's cheap, but it gets me by.

* Dean Baby-Z electric. Basic older low-end guitar, used in
most of my recordings. Has two (Strat-type) pickups,
one in the neck and middle, and a dual humbucker at
the bridge.

* Various cheap guitars.

Other Equipment:

* Tascam 246 4-track.
* Analog delay
* DOD stereo chorus
* DOD distortion (the red box)
* really cheap stereo phasor - never us it though - this one
stays in the closet.

Borrowed Equipment:

* Yamaha delay - older one.
* Midiverb II - Still my work horse.
* small Tama drumset
* Small Leslie cab

Borrowed equipment compliments of Richie Puleo - (next door neighbor)

That's it for now folks....

Latest toy: Fender '63 Vibroverb reissue - (almost) all to
original specifications. They've changed to a grounded power
cord and a solid state rectifier rather than a bottle, but
they've kept to the original circuit voltages to keep the sound
as 'vintage' as possible, and feeding a pair of 10" Oxford
speakers (as in the original), it's a blues dream. Even got
the tilt-back legs and the flat Fender logo.

If you go for the clean blues/jazz sound, and don't need
effects loops or pre/post gains then this is worth a listen.

I liked the look too, (the look 'sold' it to Sandy, which
helps! :^) For interest, the look is brown Tolex and Ecru
grille cloth, and this came between Fender's original Tweed and
eventual black Tolex, all taking place in early-mid 1963.

According to the specs, Tom - it's rated at a 'Minimum of 40
Watts RMS into 4 ohms'. Sounds reasonably loud, but the tone
is beautiful at all levels.

Do you have any truoble keeping the low B sting in tune. I just
recently bought a 5 string Samick as well. I have had trouble getting
strings the right length as well, I don't want the thick part of the
strings wrapped aroung the tuning peg. BTW here's the rest of what I'm
using right now:

Ampeg SVT head
Peavey 1508 cab (1x15,2x8)
Samick 5 string
Ibanez SDGR SR800 4 string

for recording :

Fostex 250
Sholtz Bass Rockman

FX:
Ibanez HD1000 harmonizer/delay
Boss CS2 compressor
Boss Feedbacker/distortion
Boss chorus
MXR flanger
Ibanez EQ
Yamaha Overdrive

Also used occasionally:

Ampeg V2 head
Epiphone 12 string

Peavey TL-5 5-string bass, in an odd iridescent finish - pretty,
though. Has fancy Ferrite pickups and active electronics.

Sigma 4-string acoustic/electric bass - maple with rosewood binding
and fingerboard. Takes up a lot of space on my lap, but it can
really growl when it's plugged in.

Ampeg B15N bass amp - vintage 1977, with original tubes. Sound
has been described as 'buttery'.

Epiphone Les Paul Custom copy in arctic white. Bass is first, but
I play with this a bit. I either play it through the Ampeg, or
use a little Marshall toy amp. Looking to get a Fender Champ in

1973 Ampeg B25-B bass amp (55W, 2 15") Finally replaced the original

is NOT a rock n' roll amp. The sound is FAT. (2 7027-A, 2 12AX7)

1973 Gibson EB4-L bass. Had to finally take string it with metal
strings when I couldn't find black tapes locally. Not a great bass
by any means, but after almost 20 years I certainly couldn't imagine
parting with it. Is like an old friend...

At last! A Takamine FP360SC is mine, but my beloved Carvin
twin neck (traded for more than I paid for it) is history. I
just sold one of my pinball machines and so, with cash
(virtual) in one hand, trundled off with the Carvin in the
other hand and did the deed.

Ahhhhhhhhh - the sound of angels acoustically, and plug it in,
fiddle with the parametric and we have electric angels with
astonishing clarity (through my tube Vibroverb and through the
Carvin 100W Fet amp) - truly transparent sound! I didn't plug
it in at the store - just played it acoustically. I figure if
an acoustic guitar plays and sounds well "au natural" then the
amp'd side will be ok or better. If it's lousy acoustically...

The Tak has a solid spruce top, 'soft' cutaway, rosewood sides
and two piece back with inlaid marquetry strip - nice
fiddleback job front and rear - mahogany neck and the
parametric active with bass and treble boost/cut, and a slider
for centre frequency and 16 dB of boost/cut around selected
frequency - excellent feedback killer! All sliders are
selectably illuminated and the volume control pushes in flush
when set. Battery access is from the outside (no more Ovation
soundhole excavations with miner's helmet!) and the battery
carrier is non-reversable.

Just had fun playing along with the Judds documentary on PBS.

47.258THAT MICHAEL SCHENKER LEAD SOUND?NEWOA::SCHANZER_DFri Oct 02 1992 05:0224
Hi! I'm Dieter Schanzer, and I'm new to Dec and it was great finding out
about this conference.

I own a Gibson Explorer E2,which was refinished by my local luthier in
Notingham,to a beautiful Antique Sunburst. Some fool had tried to
refinish it before I acquired it,so I didn't feel too bad about
originality an' all that.

I fitted A Custom Seymour Duncan in the lead position, and a Jeff Beck
SD in the bridge,it also came with a Kahler - which isn't all that
impressive,I'd much prefer to have a Floyd on there.

Sound? - it can kick ASS!!..I play AOR/Metal ala Giant but I'm unhappy
with my sound

I play through A 100W Marshall master volume,using a Boss Turbo
Overdrive and a Boss DD2 Digital Delay....I set the master volume to 10
and the main volme to 1 - 2....this sounds great for practice at
home, but if I try to turn up the main volume for a gig I lose all the
drive and I've lost my sound????

I'm considering a new Amp and effects(ZOOM??)....HELP!

Dieter Schanzer (DEC UK)
47.259Herr Schenker's soundCARTUN::BDONOVANFri Oct 02 1992 09:1322

If you want that Michael Schenker lead-sound...do what the
man himself does.

He does not like rack-equipment and plays straight through an
[old] Marshall with nothing but a wah-wah pedal in his signal chain.

He uses a Gibson Flying V with original Gibson PAFs, I think.

I think the big trick to his sound (other than his talent, of course!!)
is that he activates the pedal and presses it down slightly to give
a treble boost to his guitar. He doesn't actually work the pedal,
but uses it as a "variable tone booster."

So, with humbuckers, a Marshall, and a cry-baby, and lots of time to
woodshed, your half-way home! There are a number of Schenker music
books out, including his greatest hits in tablature, that might help
you, too.

Auf wiedersehen,

Brian,

Thanks for the advice....any advice on my amp settings for a gig, like
loud!!...I gather Schenker uses "old" 50w Marshalls, not master volume
ones though..am I correct?.....at the moment if I turn up I lose all
the drive..

For live purposes/recording purposes does Schenker/others turn
everything to 10??

Yours in anticipation
Cheers Dieter.

Dieter,

You should check out those new Peavey 5150 amps. The voicing is one
of the closest *I've* heard to what my old 100wt non-MV Marshall tops
sounded like, but with more drive available on the top end.

Cry Baby makes about 10 different wah pedal models. I like the Ernie
Ball ones as well. Morleys are supposed to be good, but they're ugly,
so... ???

Those Ernie Ball wah's and volume pedals look like they're built like
tanks too. The pots are easily replacable and all too, for simple
maintenance. A little bit more money up front, but it sure looks like
a solid, long lasting unit!

If I'm even in the market for that kind of pedal that's the one I'm
gonna try out first.

First, the Les Paul Classic 60+. I'm droolin'. How do you
like the neck ? pickups ? Is the top really curly ? Joe
Minville said you had a cosmetic problem with the first
one and exchanged it ??

Next, I noticed you listed a Fender 50's series Telecaster.
You never mentioned this before, so I'm assuming this is
also new. I take it this is one of the Japanese re-issue
models. How do you like it ?

And of course, I read your note about the new Bedrock amp !!
It was only a few months ago you got the new Peavey amp for
your steel. You're droppin' some major bucks lately !!

Are you still doing sound or did you sell all of your
gear to buy new guitar toyz ??

Hey Mark,

>First, the Les Paul Classic 60+. I'm droolin'. How do you
>like the neck ? pickups ? Is the top really curly ? Joe
>Minville said you had a cosmetic problem with the first
>one and exchanged it ??

LP Classic Plus...my new baby. The top is really more rippled than curly,
and the finish is just the way I want. The neck is really skinny from
nut to heel and fits my hand just right. One thing bugs me about the
Classics though...the pickups. They're too hot and buzzy for me, with
less presence than regular humbuckers. And neither come with covers,
leaving the black coils exposed, which I don't like either. I was
fully prepared to replace them before I bought it. I ordered 2 Gibson
'57 reissue humbuckers (they come with nickel plated covers) and put 'em
in. To say that I'm pleased would be an incredible understatement,
especially when I play through the Bedrock BC-75. These are the same pu's
that come on the '59 Reissue. I will take this guitar to my grave. %^)

The cosmetic problem........I went through some hell to get this
guitar. Gibson is having a difficult time keeping up with the demand for
this model/finish. I saw 3 guitars before getting this one. The quality
of the tops and the finishes vary alot. I had been searching and found a
few at various places, but not in cherry sb. The 1st one I took it home,
I decided to remove the pickguard to reveal more of the nice top, and
there was a nasty gouge in the finish from the screw/nut holding the pg
onto the bracket. I freaked and brought it back the next day. They sent
it back and ordered me another one. A month later it came in. I said,
"take off the pg" and sure enough, same thing. He called the rep and the
factory checked a half-dozen or so guitars on the line and..same problem.
So they pulled one off the line BEFORE the pg was installed (so no holes)
and sent it UPS 2-day air. This one was worth the wait and the gray hairs
and everything. It's by far, the best of the 3.

The Tele I bought while waiting for the LP. I really wanted the '52
Reissue, but nobody has one. I didn't want to mail-order it without
playing one first, cuz I heard that they had fat neck like a bat. :^(
This one is the Japanese '50's model. Blond with a skinny maple neck...
real similar to the LP.

>And of course, I read your note about the new Bedrock amp !!
>It was only a few months ago you got the new Peavey amp for
>your steel. You're droppin' some major bucks lately !!
>Are you still doing sound or did you sell all of your
>gear to buy new guitar toyz ??

Yeah, over the past year, I sold off my system, mostly to another
sound company, and recouped some major $$$ I had invested in it. So I
decided to buy a few 40th birthday presents for myself. I've always
wanted an old Les Paul, an old Strat, an old Tele, and old Martin, an old
Fender amp, an old Marshall, an Emmons, etc...but the chances of getting
one o' them is about as great as me sprouting another dick.
I have vintage taste and a reissue budget, too.
I found the Bedrock used and bought it after playing the LP through it.
I couldn't resist. The thing is awesome. 'Course, the LP sounds pretty
good through the Peavey Bandit, too.
Right now, I'm looking for a Martin or a Takamine with a pu to round
things out. Maybe after I get all this stuff, I'll learn how to play. 8^)
In the meantime, I'm enjoying the search.

Neal,

Did Gibson send you a pickgaurd separately ? All of the
Classic+ models that I have seen have had a honey colored
finish. The wood was highly figured, but not really flamed
like a real '59. I've heard other people that say that
they didn't like the stock pickups in the Classics. I guess
that PAF sound is hard to beat.

Eventually, I'd love one of these. By the time I'm ready to
buy, I hope to be able to find a used one in the Want-ads.
There was a Classic 60 (not a plus) in the want ads a month
ago in mint (unplayed) condition w/hardshell for $600.00
I kick myself for not jumping on that one.

I've checked out a lot of the 50's and 60's series reissues
from Fender and they seem to be about the best value Fender
is offering. If they ever offer a 50's series Strat in Shoreline
gold, I'll be the first one in line to buy one. I also like the
Japanese-made '51 reissue Precision bass. This is a re-issue
of Fender's first electric bass, complete with slab body, small
headstock, and vintage-style pickup. I saw a sunburst one the
other day with nicely-figured wood grain. The only thing I would
insist on if I buy one of these guitars is a Tweed hardshell
case instead of the ABS plastic cases they normally are shipped
with.

I'm also lusting after one of the new Fender '63 Vibra-verb reissue
amps. A good friend of mine has one and he gets a great tone out
of it with absolutely no efx.

Mark

Yeah, they put the pg and screws in the case. And it came with a blank
truss rod cover, without "Classic" routed into it. I've seen the Classic
Plus in every finish available and the tops vary. If you've ever seen
that poster with a bunch of photos of old flametops on it, you'll see
the old ones vary quite a bit also, from ripples, to flames, to burl.
I saw an original '60 a few years ago that was pretty wimpy. Check out
the Vintage Guitar Calendar at McDuffs or Kurlans. Have you seen the '59
Reissue hanging on the wall at Mr C's in Marlborough? It has an absolutely
glombocious flame top, and he told me that he sent two of them back before
he got that one because the tops weren't very good. It's not for sale
either, I asked. |^) BTW, last time I checked, the '59 Reissue listed for
~$3500. I'd like to know what the big difference is between the Classic
Plus and the '59 besides the slim neck and the pickups.
I agree that the '50s series Fenders are the best for the buck. I
wanted a tweed case also, but $130 was a bit much. I considered getting the
'63 Vibro-verb reissue, but I'm happy with my Pro Reverb.

Hi Pete,

I paid too much, $97.97 each from Stewart-MacDonald, but AMS has them
for $89.50. According to Stew-Mac, the PAF is really just a regular
joe 490 humbucker, but with a single coax wire, PAF sticker, and a
nickel plated cover. The 490 has a 4 conductor wire for coil cutting,
etc., and is $76.97 w/nickel cover, $69.97 without.
What model goldtop do you have, Standard, Deluxe?

Neal,

I have a reissue '56 (?) goldtop with P100s in, which would obviously
require some cutting of the body to get humbuckers in there. This fact
puts me off the idea a bit, but I do just lurve the tone of those
PAFs ....

Pete,
The P100 is a humbucker, but not in the traditional configuration.
Instead of side-by-side coils, the coils are stacked. It would be very
difficult to tell the difference between a P90 and a P100 without taking
the cover off.

You're right, they are humbuckers, but they don't have the bite of the
PAFs. They do have a very nice warm bluesy sound though.

Anyone see the '63 white tolex Blackface Fender Bandmaster head and
matching 2-12" cab at McDuff's in Shrewsbury? Well, I broke down and
bought it. When I first tried it out, I could tell it needed tubes and
told them so. So they put in a set of SovTeks and that did the trick.
Not completely sold yet, I pulled the head from the cab to check it out
thoroughly and from what I saw, the electronics never had any repairs. It
appeared totally original. The chassis is stamped 4-7-63. The original
spkrs are gone, however, and replacements installed, but I had to have it
anyway.
I got it home and plugged it in and YOW!! I got a nice shock when I
touched another amp which was also plugged in. So I replaced the 2-prong
plug and wire with 18/3 w/molded plug and connected the 3rd wire to the
chassis for safety ground. It's much safer and the hum disappeared also.
Other than that, all it needed was a bias tweek, some 409 and Armor-All.
I picked up an old Harmony amp for $40. It has 2 channels, 2-6V6s,
a 5Y3 tube rectifier, and a 12" Jensen Special Design spkr..all loaded
into this real nifty gray paper covered cardboard cab. It sounds great
cranked all the way up. No reverb, but it has a funky tremolo.

I was having tendonitis problems with my Peavey TL-5 bass, so I
traded it in on a Kubicki ExFactor 4-string. What a beauty this

Tendonitis problems? Could you elaborate on that as I am having
problems with my left wrist at the moment (i'm right handed) and it
caused real problems last weekend at the gig.

re -1 - answered in mail, but to summarize, the width of the
neck caused me (I think) to play in an uncomfortable position
(even when not using the low B), which led to tendonitis in my

I haven't posted a listing in here in quite some time, and it's constantly
changing around. But for the most part, I hope to have settled down a bit.
I only expect to add a few more things; otherwise, this should mostly
remain constant....

The Les Paul has been numero uno for about 2-1/2 years. You're
probably wondering since I brought the BC Rich to Buck's jam last
January. I only did that because I wouldn't take a chance with the
LP on a week long training trip in a hotel.

I did practice with the Strat last night though.

Strat USA Standard... Metalic Green and totally cool! Had to trade the
RG570 to get it but in the long run (especially concidering the stuff I
play in the band at nights) it is a realistic buy.

Still got the EX370, Marshall 8100 head, Marshall 2x12, ME6, Blah....

All I really want now is to replace the 8100 with a stereo head and get
a pair of 4x12's...

Coop man!

I had no choice! Playing through an 8100 head meant I struggled to a
clean sound at the best of times... but we are playing much larger
venues these days, and don't alway mike the backline. The RG570 would
simply break up the clean sound.... (being in a metal band that was
cool.. but now I play rock/pop stuff in the evenings) so it was a
choice. Do I keep the 570 or the EX370.... I worked out the avarage
trade in price and it had to be the RG570. I got $450 for the RG570 on
the trade in. I was quite happy with that as it was rather beaten up,
after 70 plus gigs in small clubs with the usual clashes of guitars
etc.

I was into the shop yesterday to check on what price they wanted or the
RG570, but no price listed... 8*(

I played one of these the other day-- very nice guitar.

I would have guessed that the mahogany/cedar combination might have
been a bit "dark" sounding for my tastes, but it wasn't. Lots of
warmth, but still good individual string definition.

47.362It's only Rock & Roll ...TMAWKO::BELLAMYI don't wanna pickle ...Thu Jun 27 1996 14:1234
Not that any Noters will ever see or hear any of this stuff, since I'm
kinda of in "The Field", so to speak, but here's what I'm playing
with/through these days:

Primary Bass: 19xx Fender Jazz Bass with EMG Pickups. I love this
bass. When I find a Luthier I trust I want to get the electronics
redone with a balance control (I'd do it myself but I don't trust my
routing skills - some wood will need to be removed for the battery).

Backup Bass: 1981 Peavy T-40. Completely stock and weighs a ton. The
big fat neck has contributed to my tendonitus, but I'll probably
always keep it. It is a vastly under rated instrument. Built like
a tank and sound great. I have had it since about 1983.

Wierd Bass: 19xx Gibson EB-2 with the sides of the body cut off. I
bought from a fellow noter and carry it on the 'Glide to misc.
Garage Band Jams.

Practice Amp: Kustom "Mixer Amp" - 20 watts, 8" speaker.

Combo Amp: Peavy TKO-65. Will be replaced later ... don't know with
what yet. It has a 15" speaker and suffers in high end response.

Gig Amp: SWR Electric Blue Head with Mesa/Boogie 4X10 Road Ready
Bottom. I am keeping my eye open for another Boogie Road Ready
speaker cab ... maybe with two 15s. Then I'll upgrade the head to a
new SWR SM-350S in a rack with a wireless set up.

That's it today. The J-Bass and the SWR/Boogie rig have been getting a
real workout lately ... probably 10 hours a week at club volume, which
is lots of use for me.

Theo

last time I entered a reply was ten years ago..

Ahh well, here's what's current..

Guitars:

Electrics

- 1979 Ibanez Musican, (only nonstock modification is a Kahler)
(been played alot and sort of shows it. I've made lots
and lots of dough with this guitar, and for Rock and Roll,
it's still my meat-n-potatoes axe)

- 1994 Fender USA Standard Telecaster, Brownburst, Maple neck (all stock)
(had a white '71 and was sorry I ever sold it. Had to
have one back eventually. Saw this one, had some bucks to burn
and picked it up reasonable (550 w/case) a few years ago.

- 1996 Fender USA Strat Plus, Brownburst, Rosewood neck (all stock)
(Needed something more than what my previous strat gave me
{62 reissue} So I sold the old one, and a few more trinkets,
and picked up the Strat plus.. Like it lots.)

- 1996 Epiphone Sheraton II, Vintage Burst (all stock)
(This was purely a "Play one that's set up right, and you'll
want one too" impulse thing. I *love* this guitar.

Acoutsics

- 1995 Ovation Legend 12 String, Natural
(Waited many years for this one, picked it up last winter (Bailed
out with all my midi stuff, and used the funds for the 12 string.
The combination of the playability of the neck, and
the eletronics make this a work horse for the acoustic stuff I'm
into.

- 1975 Alvarez Yari D27
(Pure luck, a guy I've been long friends with was going out
of business with his store. I traded a Ibanez Lone star
thin body (cost me $200 bucks and I played it for 4 years)
for this. It's sweet..

Amps:

- Marshall JTM60 with the JTMC212 expansion cab.
(Great tone, really... Had some bad luck with it since
buying it in January, but warrenty service set it right
again.

- Crate VC30
(bought this second hand for $250. A steal. This is one of
the nices small single speaker combos I've every played through.
doesn't do all the stuff the Marshall does, but comes close
and a fraction of the cost! A workhorse..)

Effects:

- Digitech DSP128+. Used mostly with the marshall in the Parallel loop
(Great delay, and chours, some nice reverb patches, but not totally
usable for all playing applications. Makes a decent PA Outboard
signal process too..)

- Ibanez SoundtnalTube Screamer (rarely used since I got the new amps
- Ibanez Soundtank Delay, (used at practice with the VC30)
- Boss CE2 Chorse. ( "" "" "" "" "" "" )

PA Stuff.

- An old RELIC Peavey 6 chanell 200 watt sound board. (Frankenstien
knobs.. hey WTF,, it works..)
- Pair of 2 way Gollehorns. Decent ofr a practice set up or cross
stage monitoring..
