1519.0. "'exp'/'imp' direct on tape problems..." by HGOVC::NANDAN () Thu Feb 20 1997 10:59
I am trying to restore an export file, exported directly on to
tape.
The problem is that the backup runs to 2 tapes & was done on an
HP system. According to the DBA, when I retrieve, I should
specify '1200M' as the volume size.
Does anyone have an idea about working with 'exp'/'imp' and
multi-volume tapes & tape volume sizes.
When I specify a small volume size such as 120M, it asks for
the second tape after some time, but obviously cannot continue
with the second tape. But when I specify 1200M (as specified
by customer) or hit <Ret> for volume size, at the end of the
tape, the 'imp' just goes into an uninterruptible sleep ('U'
according to the 'ps').
One other point is that I have a huge table to restore & am
running out of extents in the rollback segment. I do not know
if there is some way of doing intermediate commits as one can
do with SQL*Loader. This would ensure that rollback segments
are released periodically. There is a COMMIT=Y option, but
I do not know what exactly it does.
The added complication is that I am working without a
manual & not sure of the implications of many of the options.
Can someone please provide some hints on restoring 'exp' data
which are exported directly on to tapes.
Thanks in advance.
Nandan
