I just invested in a cheap noname, and so far it's done nothing but get warm. I'm hoping somebody here can give me some hints as to what to look at. Configuration: 0k cache 16M RAM (2 SIMMs, each 2x36) PS/2 keyboard Standard AT PSU (no 3.3V) ISA VGA card Floppy When powered up it does nothing at all. No video display, no serial traffic on COM0 or the diagnostics port. Nothing from the floppy drive. The keyboard flashes it's LEDs once & CPU gets warm & that's about it. I've checked jumper positions & they all seem reasonable (166MHz). I'm about to declare it dead and write it off as experience. Before I do can anyone suggest anything else I should try? [For those who missed: A bunch got solde off cheap to reduce inventory. These are hitting the streets at 99 to 129 US a pop. Support......] Is it supposed to be SRM/Unix or ARC/NT? Each supports different video cards. SRM supports a very minimal set. (TGA & one commercial...). I'd try a pci card, if available... (tho my desktop one runs a diamond stealth isa...) EITHER console will try to 'fail over' to the coma port IF If it does not see the graphics kbd. or IF it does not see a graphics card. (is it REAL 36 bit memory? Some 'parity' simms 'simulate' the parity bits, on the fly. Since AXPpci 33 does Real Honest to Pete ECC with the parity bits, simulated parity bits won't do.) regards dwp |
