322.0. "Office spaced out" by BIGUN::KEOGH (I choose to enter this note now.) Mon Feb 03 1997 20:24

Down here in sunny Canberra, we have lost or are losing
seven staff in about a month (packages, resignations,
etc. etc.) from a total of about 44 heads.

Is this happening at the same rate elsewhere in OZ?

Is there anyone left to read this?

    PK,

I dunno about Oz, but here in the US there are still signs of a
downsizing mentality. There is "brain drain" in all areas, which
may be having a more dramatic negative impact than layoffs. The
pressures to maintain profitability and growth are enormous at a
time when our product and services strengths are still one the
industry's best kept secrets ... can you spell "stealth marketing".

And just a personal note ... with the recent departures of Andrew
Waites and Ted Orme (and who knows who else), the original Customer
Support Center, created by Michael Porter back in early 1982, has
been reduced to just a couple of diehards. Since I was one of those
lucky buggers, I am curious about who else is still around, and what
    are they doing now?

    Regards,
    Keith

As I understand it there is the expectation of further selected
downsizing in Oz in the near future. Not high profile stuff and not
    across the board.

    Yes.

Chuckle. I remember adding that feature to C PHONE's database. It was
most amusing at the time discussing with management the potential
ill-effects of announcing departures, but they felt that we needed to
be able to tell callers that "No, Mr X has gone."

Ill-effects? I thought that the widespread slump in morale leading
to resignations almost keeping up with retrenchments was all part of the
strategy!
322.7negative effect .. not with meSNOFS1::STOCKLFranz StocklTue Feb 25 1997 15:1811
Hi,

Will be departing mid March after the famous tap on the shoulder. No negative
effects on mind or purse. It actually catapulted me forward a couple of years.
Mortage gone, Street Rod in sight .....

I will be marching out with my tail high up in the air (methophorically
speaking of course).

Cheers,

    of course 'negative effect' ;')

the people resigning could find out who got "the package", and envy
    them ;')

Franz wasn't kidding, he is looking for a "Street Rod" (as in a Hoon's
car). Mid-life crisis maybe? Next will come the earring and a tat.
