| From experience in building a non-functioning cheaphd (Must look at it one day),
I think you will have to have one made up.
In OZ we found a mob who make bits and pieces and they made ours.
Look in yellow pages for electronic supply houses and start there!

| Or get a connector with more than 86 pins and cut off the unneeded
"end". It's tricky to insert but once in works quite well.

| Hi Patrick,
Doing the same thing myself (slowly).
R.S. Components show a couple of items which I think should be
suitable depending on how connect to the Amiga (Cheaphd sots or via
a ribbon cable.)
From the catalogue:-
type # of ways stock # price (ea)
Solder tags
double sided 43 467-021 L7-05 ex VAT
Wire wrapping tags
double sided 43 467-059 L7-05 ex VAT
Problem:-
R.S. Components will only sell to the trade so unless you can
sweet-talk logistics or order it through your local component shop
there is a problem.
A possible solution but a route that I have not tried is that
as I understand it R.S. does have a mail retail outlet called:-
Electromail,
PO Box33,
Corby,
Northants.
NN17 9EL
For more information a "General Inquiry" no for R.S. is
0536 201234
Hope this is of some help.

| Not wanting to rain on your parade, but as the COM 201 is only 49

Cheers anyway, Patrick

| No I haven't but from what I guess... the papers only mentioned a
change in the circuit in the trap slot not the edge connector side
.....
Any lights, Patrick

5367.9 | Could try the Edgware Rd, London. | SUBURB::MCDONALDA | Smoke me a kipper... | Wed Jan 29 1992 09:25 | 17 |
| Try Maplin. You can pick up their catalogue in any W.H. Smiths. They
have a couple of shops around. The nearest one to me is on the Oxford
Road in Reading.
Couple of years ago they had a cable making service, dunno if its still
in operation.
I got them to make me a couple of cables for a couple of ST-506 drives
I have. One, was half height, so installed in the Amiga, the other was
full height, so installed in its own external box. Maplin made me two
cables to my specifications i.e. 1.2 meters long, edge connector at
either end, PLUS an edge connector 0.2 meters from one end; the cable
had three edge connectors. I think the cost for a 20 way cable and a 36
(?) way cable, with polarising keys, came to 11.50 pounds sterling. And
they have worked perfectly.

| Re -.1
Angus,
Sorry, but the Maplin catalogue shows no connector large enough
even to mbodge a job. Maplins is my usual source.
Patrick,
What do you intend to do for the PSU? The disks themselves seem
to take a hefty current at +12v. Does it need to be fully regulated
or do you think a simple rectifier + capacitor filter will do?
If anybody else has built CheepHD what did you do?

I bought as part of the project an external 200W PSU more then required
from what i read later on and I'm yet to have tried it as the friend is
hesitating in the last wiring one cable on pin 1 or 86...

| Hi,
I've found a way to do it.
Called ACE in Cornwall on 0503 220282 and they place a special-up to 8
days delivery- order with Commodore U.K. and they ship you the edge
connector that comes with the A590.
All this for the mega price of 15.00 first class postage quite a lot
but then I'll have one.
The other option now would be to phone commodore and order from
them strait....
Cheers, Patrick
