The -> means that comp.sources.amiga is linked to a directory 2 levels
above the current dir (the ../../ part) names usenet/comp.sources.amiga
Just use the comp.sources.amiga/file-name path and the Unix magic will
happen on the other side...

5366.4 | Use FILES.Z, that's why it's there! | HYDRA::MOORE | Simply reinstall....EVERYTHING! | Thu Jan 23 1992 20:51 | 11 |
| I assume the files you want are:
usenet/comp.binaries.amiga/volume91/utilities/fmdtp2/part01.Z
usenet/comp.binaries.amiga/volume91/utilities/fmdtp2/part02.Z
usenet/comp.binaries.amiga/volume91/utilities/fmdtp2/part03.Z
Rather than wasting time and network bandwidth doing directory
searches on AB20, look for file names in their FILES.Z listing
as described in the login message every time you FTP from AB20.
For your convenience, a periodically updated version can usually
be found at EOT::AMIGA:[UPLOAD]AB20_FILES.LIS.

| Also, in this case (comp.binaries.amiga), you can probably find copies
of these files in the AMIGA_BINARIES notesfile on FRSOLD::.

To answer your question of what you did wrong, the 'binary' and
'uuencode' should be replaced by an 'ascii' line, since you're asking
for directory listings.

5366.7 | thanks. | MEO78B::MANDERSON | Amiga + '030 == MicroCRAY | Thu Jan 23 1992 22:51 | 17 |
| Hey guys give me a break - I am just learning about how to ftp and move
around the u*ix file structure to get things.
re -.2 Thanks for the pointers to the files - much appreciated.
re -.1 binary/uuencode - I had already used that combination on some
other directories and it worked fine - so why mess with it if it works
:-}
I looked at Files.z but figured it was a compressed TAR file - or some
such - and hadn't got as far as working out how to get into them so
left it be for a while.
I hadn't thought of amiga_binaries....

Also, not all FTP mail servers support the Unix command equivilents. Some
will only let you dir a "DIR" or a "LS".
When you send a request, you get back 3 things:
1. A message stating it [your request] was received
Read this. It sometimes contains interesting information
like the host you connected to was unknown or unreachable etc.
2. A "results of your request" message.
Read this carefully. It will tell you what went wrong
in actually executing the request, if anything.
3. The stuff you requested
Assuming nothing negative was said in 1 or 2
