| I am not sure I know what you mean by a "block editor" - I am guessing you
mean something to patch binary (executable) files.
If so, it is hard to go wrong with NewZap, which is on one of the Fish
disks. It has had all the features I have needed: displays blocks in hex
and ascii, searching with optional case insensitive searches, patching in
hex or ascii.
I don't recall which fish disk it is on, but you can get the aquarium and
search for it.

| I used to use NewZap, but lately I've been using HEX (on some recent fish disk).

| Well john,
Just came in between. If HEX is more available and has a similar
functionality then I'll go for HEX re .3

| You'll have the same problem getting hex as you will newzap i.e. download.
I think they are both pretty much equivilent. I just liked the interface
on HEX better.

| If you are going to patch sectors on a hard drive, make sure the editor
you use supports the FastFileSystem otherwise you will end up with data
corruption.
HEX is a file-based binary editor meaning it looks at blocks in files
rather than sectors on a disk. IF you are looking for something that
directly edits by disk sector, I don't know if HEX will work or not.
