5340.0. "Anyone interested in a small utility?" by AIDEV::LANDINGHAM (For a good prime, call: 391581 * 2^216193 - 1) Mon Jan 13 1992 11:35

I usually download a lot of stuff to hard drives and later transfer to floppy
disk for more permanent storage. So I do a lot of popping disks in DF1:.

I wanted a program to tell me the volume name and free blocks on a drive when a
disk was inserted. So I wrote one. It's pretty unsophisticated, but it works.
You RUN it from a CLI, and everytime a disk is inserted it will type out the
disk's volume name and the free blocks.

If anyone's interested in using this I'll upload it.

5340.4V2.0 is a no-go..XSNAKE::WILSONTLLead Trumpet (Read that...LEED!)Wed Jan 15 1992 08:344
    I tried it on my 3000 (V2.-04). It causes the screen to go haywire and
    the only remedy seems to be the 3-fingered poke in the eye.

5340.5Addendum to .4XSNAKE::WILSONTLLead Trumpet (Read that...LEED!)Wed Jan 15 1992 08:3710
    It seems to be a worthwhile utility. You are right. Knowing the free
    blocks on a diskette is useful. Consider that most 3000's, however,
    are delivered with one diskette internal and that any diskette driver
    connected to the external port becomes DF2:, not DF1:. So please allow
    for more than just the two drive names.

    Thanks,

5340.6Caution: DON'T FORMAT DISKSAIDEV::LANDINGHAMFor a good prime, call: 391581 * 2^216193 - 1Wed Jan 15 1992 10:388
    re: .-1 I'll add DF2: option in next "release".

    Caution: After using this for awhile I found a serious problem when
    formatting new disks. DO NOT TRY TO FORMAT DISKS while this program is
    running. You're surely visit the wise man on the mountain.

    Sorry this didn't get into the docs.
