5332.0. "Amiga dealers in Atlanta?" by CSC32::D_RESTIVO () Wed Jan 08 1992 11:49

    Hi,

    I will be relocating to Atlanta, Ga soon and wonder how many Amiga
    dealerships there are out there. Can someone provide insight? Are
    they big dealerships?

    thanks in advance!

    There is just one as far as I know (but what do I know; I'm from
    Birmingham). Ampex Systems in Norcross. They sell only Commodore
    stuff, mainly Amiga. They have a very knowledgeable staff and good
    stock of software. There is also an Amiga Users' Group here, but I've
    never had the chance to attend any meetings due to scheduling.

5332.2At least three...VMSNET::WOODBURYThu Jan 09 1992 10:2121
	There are at least three, maybe four, plus the Software Etc. chain.

	The best in my opinion is Ampex Systems on Jimmy Carter Blvd, about
    a mile south of I285, across from the Dunken Donuts. Recently expanded
    its sales space and has a good service department.
	Also good, but smaller is BFJ Enterprises in the back corner of the
    upper level of Roswell Mall off Holcom (sp?) Bridge Rd. The place is
    in transition at the moment and I'm not sure exactly which direction it
    is going.

	There's a video store down town someplace that also does Amiga. I've
    not been there so I can't tell you much about it.
	There's also a rumor that there is another dealer on the east side of
    town, but I haven't had time to check it out at all.

	There's also a guy in Marietta who used to be an Amiga dealer who is
    now mail order only. Sold all his stock to Ampex Systems. Probably of
    historical interest only.

	Software Etc. only has the small 500 systems and very little in the
    way of add ons.

    The AAMIGA CENTER is the store that sold its stock to Ampex systems.

5332.5I don't live in Atlanta but...CSC32::R_MCBRIDEthis LAN is your LAN, this LAN is my LAN...Fri Jan 10 1992 12:343
    My Amiga pimp in Marrietta highly recommends BFJ. It seems the new
    owners, the children of the old owner, want to compete with mail order
    companies. My friend suggests you don't overlook these people.
5332.6BFJ - Great service!DECWET::DAVISMark W. Davis 206.865.8749Fri Jan 10 1992 13:2320
    I have ordered from BFJ. Their service is great and their normal
    method of shipping (if you mailorder as I do) is UPS Blue. They give
    discounts (on top of their mailorder discount) for purchases above
    certain amounts. The percent of discount depends on the purchase
    amount. I downloaded their catalog from Portal, ordered what I wanted
    through internet e-mail and got my purchases (WShell 2.0, ADPro 2.0,
    TurboText) THE NEXT DAY with NO SHIPPING CHARGES. They sent my order
    UPS RED because they wanted to get it to me before the holidays.
    (christmas was 2 days away) I was mightly impressed. Their prices are
    compararable to Safe Harbors, but if you order in volume they get a bit
    better. Their catalog is smaller than Safe Harbors but as mentioned
    above their shipping policy cannot be beat. UPS blue at a shipping
    rate that others send their packages ground. Check them out, I have
    heard nothing but praise for them from folks on Portal and I am very
    pleased with the service they've given me. So pleased, in fact, that I
    am going to order an Firecracker24 from them :) I will upload their
    catalog if there is interest.

I also swear by BFJ. I have been dealing with them for several years now, and
have always found them to be more than fair in pricing and service.

Cheers,
