5293.0. "Building the *NEW* Amiga conference" by HYDRA::MOORE (Simply reinstall....EVERYTHING!) Thu Dec 19 1991 21:20

Recent comments seem to support the creation of a new Amiga conference.
This process had been started about a year ago, but unfortunately the
effort never achieved "critical mass" as I became occupied with less
important matters (i.e. work). I'm *still* very busy, but let's try it
    again...

Here's the deal. As of this evening, I've opened HYDRA::AMIGA_V2 to the
public. I'm looking for volunteers to begin transferring "good stuff"
from this (old) conference to the new one. If you have time and desire
to lend a hand, do this:
    	Notes> ADD ENTRY HYDRA::AMIGA_V2
    	Notes> OPEN AMIGA_V2

Look over what's been done so far, decide how you want to contribute,
then declare your intentions in a reply to topic 200. Locate and
extract items from 'old' AMIGA, edit, summarize, etc. as appropriate.
This is your opportunity to organize AMIGA_V2 the way you think it
    should be!

For a couple of weeks, I'd like to limit the new conference to
activities directly involved with reorganizing. Therefore, access is
currently restricted to replies only. Please continue using 'old' AMIGA
for general discussions until we declare the new file officially open.

    Hi Bruce,

Do we assume that once those entries selected have been
transferred to AMIGA_V2 this conference will be deleted or will it
still be available in some form?

Repeating what I said in the recent "can't download" note...

For an excellent example of a reorganized conference, look at
ROUTES::MACINTOSH. They took the best 100 notes or so and put them up
front in the new conference. The old version is archived somewhere in
read-only mode. May I suggest that the new conference be called
AMIGA, and the one we're reading right now become AMIGA_V1.

Another possibility in a reorganization would be to separate out all
discussions of PD software to a separate notesfile, with a specific
topic for discussion of each program title. A good example is again in
    the Macintosh world, MACONLINE.

    My 2 cents, recycled.

Seems like a good idea - the I*M PC have split the shareware stuff into
    a seperate file as well.

Actually, this file already is AMIGA_V1, with an aliased directory
entry as AMIGA. My plan all along has been to do as you describe.

I'm willing to host a separate file for PD software, if there's
enough interest in that arrangement. Comments, suggestions, etc.?

Good idea to have Amiga_PD or something!

Would need good moderating to stop people putting the wrong notes in
the wrong conference!

BRUCE - Can you change AMIGA_V2 title to read "NEW users read note 6"
or something?

5293.6Updating the Usenet->NOTES ConferencesNITMOI::WITHERSAnother Hallmark Moment. -Al BundyThu Jan 02 1992 12:4131
Could I also recommend to the owner of FRSOLD::

We currently subscribe to Usenet conferences there. Since its
inception, the Usenet amiga conferences have spilt into perhaps ten
seperate entities. Perhaps they can all get a notes conference or we
can vote on what would be good ones to carry.

This primarily for those without XRN or the desire to use XRN. But
    currently we only carry:

    	AMIGA was comp.sys.amiga obselete
    	AMIGA_TECH was comp.sys.amiga.tech obselete
    	AMIGA_HARDWARE was comp.sys.amiga.hardware	current

    Other groups include:

    	comp.sys.amiga.advocacy
    	comp.sys.amiga.applications
    	comp.sys.amiga.telecomm
    	comp.sys.amiga.audio
    	comp.sys.amiga.graphics
    	comp.sys.amiga.introduction
    	comp.sys.amiga.games
    	comp.sys.amiga.marketplace
    	comp.sys.amiga.programming
    	comp.sys.amiga.multimedia

(I probably forgot one or two)

    Hi George,

nice to see that the conferences on FRSOLD are not useless :-)
Your request has been done .... a year ago. I forgot to post
    the change in the TURRIS::EASYNET_CONFERENCES-conference.

For the complete history of the usenet-conferenes on the EASYnet
read 2548.*. in 2548.29 is the description of the last reorg.

    Have fun,

    Ralf
