| : The portable in Germany is said to be dead also
If you're refering to the one from Gigatron then you're right it is
dead, cause it never existed. It was just a vapoware product.
But there is another way to get to your Amiga laptop. Buy the Aminos
Amiga emulator (it is a card for the PC and was shown at the
Amiga '91 in Cologne) and plug it into an MS DOG compatible laptop... ;-)

| Re .1:
You've definitely piqued my interest. I'm in the market for a laptop, and have
settled on the MS-DOS variety for a number of reasons. Having portable Amiga
compatibility as well, though, would make this a no-lose situation (except for
money, that is...).
Some questions which come immediately to mind are:
(1) Price?
(2) Degree of compatibility?
(3) Physical characteristics? (E.g., does it *fit* into a laptop?)
(4) Approach to emulation- i.e., does one set up an AmigaDos partition and boot
off it, or is it Windows-oriented and simply allow one to run an AmigaDOS window,
or...
Thanks for all info-
Bob

| Re .1:
I haven't actually seen this critter in action, I only saw the
peripherial card one morning before the show opened up.
It looked like a long AT slot card and seemed to have the Amiga
custom chips on board. I haven't seen a price tag, but
if you're interested I can try to find out something more.
Cheers, Heiko

| From January's Amiga Shopper:
"According to US on-line news source AMreport 2 portable Amigas are
being readied for imminent release...neither are official Commodore
products. Developed by Kansas based firm, Newer Technology. 2 models, a
model 10 and 30, with 10 inch mono or colour display.
Model 10 has 68000 clocked at 7.16 Mhz with 1.3 or 2.0 ROM
Model 30 68030 24 Mhz
Both feature up 2mb ram, 880k floppy as standard. Ram expands to 8mb
Newer Technology intead to bring out peripherals like hard disk,
battery charger and PC emulator.
Model 10 due to show at Dec. world of Commodore. After the no-show a
spokesman said "the company is re-assessing the products' viability"
Industry believe no-show is due to legal moves by Commodore US to block
development..to protect its proprietary chip."
Continues to say a way to get around chip problems is to do this, as
demonstrated by a company who released notebook MACS. They bought up
old macs and removed the chips!
