I can't seem to get the KCS to save a file on any other than the system disk. When I try to insert another disk at the point where the save is to occur KCS replies with "Please insert system disk 1 in drive df0...". Is this a bug or a feature? I have only one drive, but it doesn't say anywhere in the doc's that 2 drives are required. By the way I have version 1.6A. Thanks, Scott

I don't have KCS but I know that on some software with "smart" file requesters, the program looks for a previously used disk so that it can display those files for you. If the disk is no longer there, you get the request to replace it. Have you tried clicking on "cancel" to see if the progam stops assuming you want that other disk? Dave

If I remember correctly, 1.6a of kcs was protected and any operation would require that the original disk to be inserted even if run from a hard disk. Have you tried write protecting the disk(kcs) and specifying the disk name (not df0:) in the write request? Does this bring up a requestor to put in the new disk? This may not be correct as I haven't run in in a long time. The latest version can be installed and run from a hard disk.

Thanks for your help - I finally got it work - as follows. After loading the program I immediately insert a formated data disk in my drive. I then click on the load/save utility. A window appears with the message "Please insert KCS Level II in drive df0:" I then click on cancel which then causes the directory of my data disk to be displayed after which I enter the name of the save file and click on OK. The file is then written to disk. I must have been doing something similar to this previously, but I wasn't performing the procedure in exactly the above order. What a PIG this program can be at times! On the whole, though, I'm very satisfied with KCS Level II and would recommend it to anyone who is serioius about music and the Amiga. Thanks again for your help. Regards, Scott |
