5203.0. "Sony GDM-1950 cable please " by DUCK::NONDEP (Il est des fois que je souhaite....) Thu Nov 14 1991 10:03

    I have acquired a 19" Sony GDM-1950.

    I would like to use it with my AMIGA500. I currently use a Vr241 and
    made up a cable from the notes. 4 BCN one Red, Blue, Green and "Sync"
    plugged on the ext forth on the back of the monitor.

    I tried it didn't work. Had the colours and I could guess the WB screen
    but no more.

    At the back of the GDM-1950 I have taked from the book

    "VIDEO IN connectors(BCN)
    Accept RGB video signals(0.174Vp-p, Positive).
    when no external sync signal is applied, an internal sync signal
    (0.286 Vp-p, negative) must be added to the G signal.

    SYNC IN (external sync input) connectors (BCN,75 ohms)
    Accept external sync signals(1-4 Vp-p, negative).
    HD:Horizontal drive or composite drive pulse
    VD:for cvertical drive pulse
    When an external sync signal is applied, the monitor is automatically
    swithced from the internal sync mode to the external sync mode."

    Note:I'm useless in electronics". Idiots guide required. Cheers,
    Patrick

5203.1Horizontal sync @ 54.xxKhzDECWET::DAVISMark W. Davis 206.865.8749Thu Nov 14 1991 15:317
    If you can find an Amiga video controller that will output a
    54.07(mumble)khz horizontal sync signal you are in good shape.
    If not, it will not function for you. Maybe the DMI resolver, if
    you want to write your own code.

5203.2More info pleaseDUCK::NONDEPIl est des fois que je souhaite....Fri Nov 15 1991 03:289
    Mark,

    Thank you for the information.

    What is the DMI resolver.
    How much programming knowledge in which language do you need to write
    the sort of code one would need ?

    Cheers, Patrick
5203.3Do not know muchDECWET::DAVISMark W. Davis 206.865.8749Fri Nov 15 1991 12:479
    All I know about the Resolver is that it is a 24 bit graphics board
    with a graphics co-processor and expandable memory. I heard somewhere,
    Usenet perhaps, that it will sync (due to the processor) wherever you
    want it to. They have been advertising in the Amiga magazines, you
    might want to get their address and give them a call. I believe it was
    developed in Europe.

5203.4More on DMI please !DUCK::NONDEPIl est des fois que je souhaite....Fri Nov 15 1991 12:578
    Mark,

    Is DMI the name of the company ? I'm going to a computer show tomorrow
    and if possible I could ask to find out more about it.

    What is your phone number DTN

    Its 18.00 here in the U.K. but will stay a bit longer. Cheers, Patrick
5203.5not 24 bitSALEM::LEIMBERGERMon Nov 18 1991 06:323
    I don't think the resolver is 24 bits. I think it is a very high res
    256 color out of a 24bit pallette. Similar to svga.

5203.6More question! What/who is svga ?DUCK::NONDEPIl est des fois que je souhaite....Mon Nov 18 1991 08:4912
    Bill, Mark,

    Does this mean it won't work ?

    I've looked into various magasines, but haven't seen it advertized.
    Could you give me some more information on it if it works !

    Cheers, Patrick

5203.7super VGASALEM::LEIMBERGERMon Nov 18 1991 10:164
    SVGA is the latest super VGA mode from the IBM world. It is basically
    geared toward the cad, dtp worlds. If you want a very good workstation
    disply it may be great. If you want 24bit output it will not do it.

5203.8What's your opinion ?DUCK::NONDEPIl est des fois que je souhaite....Mon Nov 18 1991 11:4314
    Bill,

    What I would like to use my screen is for:
    Deluxe Paint IV -just bought on Saturday, and not used yet !-
    Prowrite 3.1
    Later when I have the pennies a package like Imagine.....
    other utilities where I could see more of by having a larger window
    Large screen for the games

    What would you go for all this from an AMIGA500 !

    Cheers, Patrick

5203.9HYDRA::MOORESimply reinstall....EVERYTHING!Wed Nov 20 1991 21:0010
    I'm afraid you won't be able to use that monitor with your Amiga.

    Forget about the DMI Resolver because:
    	* It lives in a 2000/3000 expansion slot, your A500 has none.
    	* The Resolver is strictly an auxiliary display device. There
    	  is no support the operating system to redirect output to it,
    	  i.e. no Workbench display on the big screen. Applications
    	  must be specifically written for the Resolver in order to use
    	  it, very few support it today, most probably never will.
    	* It's expensive... (US)$2000 to $4000, depending on configuration.
5203.10Where to sell it ?DUCK::NONDEPIl est des fois que je souhaite....Thu Nov 21 1991 03:568
    Well,

    What a shame, never mind. I'll have to find a conference where I can
    sell it !

    Any suggestions ?

    Cheers, Patrick
