Has anyone bought/used the IDE accellerator chip in their system? Is it 100% compatible with the 6800 chip? Is it truely the best priced accellerator in its class? If anyone can provide specific details, please do... MAG

I just got a copy of .info off the newsstand of my local dealer and read a fairly thorough review of this accelerator. There are some pluses and minuses as there are with all such devices. If there is interest, I will post a summary of the article. Dave | |||||

Sorry it took a while -- I lost track of the magazine and then the base note. According to .info, the accelerator is a "daughtercard". You extract the original 68000 and plug in this daughtercard which contains 32k of cache and a socket for a 14.3 Mhz 68000. As far as being compatible with a 68000, I would imagine that it is, since it IS a 68000. They DID mention compatiblity problems if you use/plan to use a math co-processor (68881). They also indicated that the best speed increases were for programs which have tight loops in fast RAM -- your mileage may vary, etc. The list price is $349.95. Dave |
