Has anybody come across a program like MakeLink (WB2.0) which will
provide the Unix-like ability to make a soft link across directories or
volumes?
I would like the ability to setup search lists, so that I could split a
set of files across several volumes and be able to access all of the
files as though they were in one directory (like with SID or
DirMaster). I could do this with Path but then the system would search
all of the entries in the Path which I do not want to have happen, I
would much rather be able to refer to a logical like PICS: and access
only those directories which have a soft link to an entry in a root
directory.
thanks

I think there used to be something called PathAssign. It would allow
you to put a string of paths in an assign type statement.
Probably on EOT:: or a FISH disk somewhere.

Sounds like something that might work.
I searched the Fish list and could not find any indication of this
program.
Would anybody happen to have a pointer to this program?

Thanks,
PathAssign creates a new device entry and allows one to access more
than one directory/device through the new device name. Access to a
specified file is quick, wildcard operations (eg: dir test:*) are
rather slow and if you copy to the device the file goes into the bit
bucket. If a file with the same name appears in more than one place it
will show up that number of times in a directory listing, operations on
that filename will take effect upon the first one found in the
pathassign list.
For the most part this is a good substitute for a soft link
ability.

Does PathAssign work with 2.0 also?
