I need some help with a Thompson 4375m Multi-sync monitor.
I sent mine in for video repair, I was getting ghost characters.
Like a big dummy, I let them utilize my custom made cable!
They lost it! I have no idea how the cable was wired...
I purchased the Amiga 2000 second hand. It came with a
Bridge board XT, and the monitor etc... The monitor has two
switches on it, which allowed me to flip them. If I flipped
then in one sequence I would be on the XT, if I flipped them in
another sequence I would be on the Amiga side. This was nice...
The switches which were installed on the case of the monitor
are simply wired to another added d-9 connector. The original
custom cable looked like the drawing below.
|------------------| To Monitor Analog connector D-25
|
Bridge |---|---|-----| To Monitors Original TTL connector D-9
XT D-9 | |
| |-----| To Added D-9 connector, also connected via 2 swiches
| so as to flip from TTL to Amiga RGB
Amiga |---|
RGB
This cable may not have been disigned for optimum use to start with.
I'm not sure. I plan on having the computer vendor which lost the
cable to make me a replacement, They have committed to do this. I
want them to make me a cable that will be best suited for my amiga
with this monitor with the bridge board. Your help is desperately
needed, I'd like to get my monitor up and running. It took these
yo yo heads 4 months just to get the monitor repaired! I don't
want them taking 4 months to get the cable right.
I'm considering a VGA bridge board for this system, are there any
out there that use the d-9 connector? How much will this cost
me? Can I have them design a better cable with VGA in mind for the
XT bridge board? Again Please help!
I have include my monitors pin assignments and signal specifications
with this note. So if your the cable/monitor wizzard, please give
me ideas.
What are other bridge board users doing to switch their monitors
over from TTL to Amiga RGB?

| 5138.1 | Looks like you already have Xt display hardware | CX3PT3::WSC017::A_ANDERSON | CSC32::A_Anderson NSU/VAX DTN 592-4170 | Wed Oct 23 1991 16:43 | 9 |
It sounds like you already have some sort of XT display hardware. By default the Janus software suppies CGA emulation in a normal Amiga window. Since you flipping switches on the monitor to see the XT display you have to already have a optional display card on the PC side. I use the CGA display so i do not need a switch. But others n this notes file might have a simmular setup. Also do you have a flicker fixer on your Amiga? | |||||
| 5138.2 | Maybe, but I dont think so... | ANGLIN::GAINES | Thu Oct 24 1991 11:12 | 31 | |
I'm farily certain I'm using a d-9 connector from the 2088
bridge-board. Is this correct? What is the standard connector
attached to the bridge board?
I believe I'm using CGA directly from the bridge board.
Anyhow, my amiga used to allow me to switch via 2 switches as per
note 5138.0. Now it does not. No I don't have a flicker fixer.
What is your typical cable configuration to your monitor if you
are a bridge board user?
What is the typical configuration if your using a commodore 1084?
Can someone please assist with my multi-sync cable issue?
Currently I'm using my 1084 until the cable issue with the Thompson
is resolved. When I use the 1084 I use the emulation PC software. This
is ok but screens aren't exactly fast. I don't want to have to
access the XT via the pc software in the future. Is this the only
way to access the xt with a 1084 or are there other cables to
accomplish this on the 1084 monitor.
You said you use the cga display so you don't need a switch. How does
your amiga, know when you want to see and utilize the XT display?
Are you using the PC emulation software?
You probably can tell I'm not an expert here, though I wish now
I were... Maybe I'll get there before 65.

| 5138.3 | Typical Bridge board has no display connector. | CX3PT3::WSC017::A_ANDERSON | CSC32::A_Anderson NSU/VAX DTN 592-4170 | Thu Oct 24 1991 14:30 | 29 |
The typical XT/AT bridge board does not have a monitor connector. The CGA
display is emulated in software and uses a standard Amiga Dos window. Since
you have a monitor connector on your bridge board I wuld guess that it is VGA.
As an external CGA adapter would be redundant. You will need to open it
up to see.
My Amiga has the CA display enhancer. This provides VGA compatible output. If
I were to buy a VGA adapter for my Bridge boartd I would need a monitor A/B
switch to switch between the Amiga and Bridge board.
Abel has this in their catalog:
Cable:Amiga To Thompson 4120 Monitr Redmond Cable ---------8 $ 29.95 $ 15.95<CR>
Redmond cable might be a place to start looking. From note 3390 their number is
Redmond Cable
17371 - A1 NE 67th Ct.
Redmond, WA 98052

Fax:(206)-883-1430
I have never dealt with them but others in this notes file gave them good marks.
Give them a call they list quite a few cable for the Amiga from monitors
to SCSI bus cables.
I am located in Colorado Springs.

| 5138.4 | found a funny cable... | ANGLIN::GAINES | Fri Oct 25 1991 11:08 | 11 | |
Gee, I just discovered a d-9 connector/cable in a box at home
that will interface my 1084 via its ttl jack to the d-9 connector to
my XT.
If I connect the cable, AM I safe here? Also would I simply have to
push the CV??/RGB button on the front of my monitor to switch
between amiga and IBM XT?
I don't want to blow anything up here...

| 5138.5 | Found this, what is it and... | ANGLIN::GAINES | Sun Oct 27 1991 01:11 | 23 | |
Well, I finally got the nerve up and cracked AMY open...
gee, this baby can get a little confusing. Any how it
does look like I have some sort of funny graphics card
for the xt pc emulator. Maybe someone can help identify
it.
I bought my Amiga second hand and have most of the books
etc... however I haven't been able to find anything on
this what I suspect to be graphics enhancer module for the
pc. According to the label on the module it is an EVEREX
systems INC EV659, there is a rom with a number on it and
its at rev 1.54.09. The module is a short module, but is
loaded with fancy chips, heavy too... It has a d-9 and a
d-25 connector on it. What is this? Is it CGA,EGA< or VGA?
Now, Also I tried the cable I found that had the d-9 connector
on one end and the barrel connector on the other end to interface
my 1084 monitor. I dont get any video, regardless of the position
;I put the CVBS or RGB button in the front. I disconnected the RGB from
the AMIGA and simply tried it from the pc side. Anyone have a
suggestion?

| 5138.6 | Try NAC::IBMPC notes | CX3PT2::WSC017::A_ANDERSON | CSC32::A_Anderson NSU/VAX DTN 592-4170 | Sun Oct 27 1991 12:21 | 7 |
I am not being very helpful, but I looked into the Computer Shopper
Product and source listing. Everex sells quite a few Video adapters.
You might try posting .5 in the IBMPC notes file. NAC::IBMPC or calling
your local PC store to see if they have a tech support number for
Everex.
