5125.0. "MakeIcon" by TOOK::KEEGAN (Peter Keegan) Thu Oct 17 1991 09:24

Has anyone had success using 'MakeIcon'?
Whenever I choose an image file, I get the error:
'Image too large', even if I reduce the image to 2 bit planes
(using DPaint). I did notice that the size of the file didn't
change much despite the reduction. Is this a bug in 'MakeIcon'?
Any workarounds?

thanks,
Peter

    I use IE (Icon Edit from FF377) instead of MakeIcon (FF255), but to
    each his own. I suspect your problem is the difference between an IFF
    'image' file and and IFF 'brush'. DPaint produces both. The whole
    screen is stored as an 'image', which would certainly be too big to use
    in an icon. Instead, you should bound each icon image to define it as
    a brush and save each in a separate file. Then you should be able to
    import the file(s) into MakeIcon.

    Thanks, Bill, I'll try the brush approach and check out IconEdit.
