Frank Gatulis recently created and uploaded a comprehensive Amiga vendor
list. Check out note 5044 for a pointer to its filename on EOT::.

System Eyes and The Memory Location are full-service dealers, not
discount mailorder places. Electronic Boutique isn't full-service
but it is also a retail store. Lechmere is a large department store.
The only one I have the phone number for is System Eyes: (603) 889-1234.

Being a rookie, how do I print this vendors.txt file? I am not
familiar with "uploading/downloading" and am a loss for how to do this.
I tried to open EOT::VENDORS as a command, but couldn't get to it . . .

Jolene,
Copy it to your VAX area and print it, simple as that. It's just a text
file and you can tailor it to your personal liking with your favorite
editor. Print it in 132 column mode (landscape).
Copy EOT::AMIGA:VENDORS.TEXT *

| Jolene, first step. Copy it from EOT:: to your VMS directory:
VMS$ copy eot::amiga:[upload]vendors.txt *.*/log
Then it's probably easiest to print it on the VMS machine:
VMS$ print vendors.txt/notify
That will send it to SYS$BATCH, which is _probably_ setup for wide paper.
You might want to check the printer type before trying it.
If you want to upload it, there are plenty of notes that can provide info.
Once on the Amiga, you can typically print with something like:
% copy vendors.txt to ptr:

| Re .5:
The command:
% copy vendors.txt to ptr:
won't work. In order of importance, please note:
(a) You need to type the command from a CLI or Shell window, in case you didn't
realize that.
(b) The "%" is meant to represent the CLI prompt, don't type it.
(c) the string "ptr:" should read "PRT:". (This represents the printer device.)
(Personally, I use "TYPE" instead of "COPY," but both should theoretically do
about the same thing.)
Good luck-
Bob

 That will send it to SYS$BATCH, which is _probably_ setup for wide paper.
What he meant to say was SYS$PRINT, which points to your system's
default print queue (vs. specifying it via $ print/queue=queue-name).

| It worked! Thank you everyone! Can't wait to get some of the PD
software.
Everyone in this conference is so supportive, and now that I know how
to do dir/title= you will probably not hear from me as much!
I'm learning!

Boy, I've been spending so much time on ULTRIX and MS-DOS (egad!) that my
once solid VMS/Amiga foundation appears to be cracking... :^)
Imagine SYS$BATCH instead of SYS$PRINT, ptr: and not PTR:
Looking forward to a lot of Amiga time this Fall/Winter!
