5087.0. "AmigaDOS 2.0 requires new roms for A2620 and A2630 boards" by AMIGA::RIES (OS/2 = Half an Operating System) Tue Oct 01 1991 14:59
Over the past few months I have read various pieces of information that seem
to imply that in order to run AmigaDOS 2.0 on the A2620 and A2630 accelerator
boards you must have the latest revision of the roms.
I talked to Roy at The Memory Location about this, but as usual, he knew
nothing about it, and was not very helpful in finding out for sure. Are
all Amiga dealers like this?
Anyway, I read some usenet notes on this topic yesterday, and it seems to
confirm that you do indeed need new roms. Seems that the older roms do not
handle the fact that the 2.0 roms are 512K rather than 256k properly.
Any A2620 or A2630 owners out there aware of this?
Here are a couple of the notes on this topic direct from Dave Haynie:

Actually, what you really want here is KS2.04 assembled for either $00f00000 or
$00f80000, which you can load with SetCPU. The disadvantage of the hack for
KickStart at $00200000 is that your KickStart code is no longer write
protected, which makes the system easier to kill.

Nope. The A26x0 ROMs can be switched on and off under control of the ROM code,
though by the time you're in AmigaOS the control registers are no longer
available. The A26x0 ROMs were supposed to be off by the time you got to
AmigaOS, but due to an undetected bug in the A26x0 ROM code, they were left on
in ROM older releases (I think "Revision 6" is the 2.0-compatible A26x0 ROM
release, though I'm not certain).

From what the software folks tell me, you need the "-06" version of those
ROMs. They have apparently been put in later model A2630s, I guess those
made since there was an approved "-06" ROM set, and that means they should
be available as a replacement part, if nothing else. Note that this is only
an issue with 2.04 ROMs; if you're loading 2.04 from floppy with SetCPU, you
don't care about it.

5087.1 | -06 version of the ROM.... same for 2620 and 2630. | IAMNRA::SULLIVAN | Life gets mighty precious when there's less of it to waste! | Tue Oct 01 1991 17:10 | 6 |
| Indeed, the Commodore accelerators need ROM revision -06 for running
V2.? in ROM. If it is kickbooted this is not needed at all. The parts
are supposed to be available as maintenance parts. There are 2 ROMs
in the set.
