5070.0. "Chip Memory Fragmentation" by COMICS::HOGGAN (No, I am not kidding !!!) Tue Sep 24 1991 06:25
Hi,
Does anyone know how to defragment chip memory? Perhaps a utility.
I have SimCity installed on my hard disk. If, on bootup, I start up a
shell and call SimCity, the program runs fine. However, if I open a few
directories on the workbench then call SimCity, the program repeated
hangs with the Low Memory Warning. The chip memory largest free block
has dropped from 780K to about 3K - I still have approx 600K chip mem
left though! It appears that only SimCity does this on my machine, but
not on a friends A500!
Thanks, Dave.

5070.1 | Try MemFlush on EOT:: | RIPPLE::LUKE_TE | Terry Luke SLO (Utah) | Thu Oct 03 1991 17:44 | 6 |
| There's a program on EOT::AMIGA:[upload] called MEMFLUSH.LZH which does
a pretty good job of defragmenting chip ram for me. It defragments
fast ram as well, but to effective on chip ram you have to run it by
clicking on the icon with no other programs on the workbench screen.
It closes workbench so if you have the SID icon running, a CLI or a
title bar clock it won't be able to close it.
