5058.0. "Buying software and hardware by mailorder" by SNOFS1::GERAGHTY (Simon, SPR CS IS) Fri Sep 20 1991 04:14

*** DIGITAL INTERNAL USE ONLY ***

I have uploaded a file to EOT::AMIGA:[UPLOAD]MAILORDER.TXT containing
information about mailorder companies.

The information is extracted directly from this notes conference. I have not
editiorialised any of the content, and simply cut and paste with some
justification of text.

The entries are in the format:

============================================================================
ABEL

Note 493.15 13-MAY-1987
    Now you've got me wondering...What's better, mail-order from a
reputable supplier (ABEL seems to have a good name on the Usenet),
Note 653.10 6-OCT-1987
Another satisified customer!!! Just got mine from Abel's for $430.
(Just before they went up to $459).
Note 1184.6 28-MAR-1988

showing the company, then each note number and the date it was posted.

Obviously the information does not include all comments from the conference on
mail order companies because lots of this information is embedded in ratholes
with misleading titles. I posted the file to EOT:: rather than directly here so
it could be read easily and updates posted in correct sequence.

I make no comments about whether the companies are still in business. One good
idea for the file would be to include such an indicator at the company header
and included the latest address, phone and fax.

Wherever possible I have excluded names of note author's and other names.
However if someone want to insert their name on a note they wrote feel free.

Since the information is already avialable on the net: (via this conference) I
don't see any problems with whatever adverse comments may be in the text,
otherwise the moderator of this conference would have blown the notes away. But
once again I'll say it - since this conference is internal use only, the file is

I hope this proves a useful resource. It certainly has been enlightening for me
while considering which US company to send my hard-earned Australian dollars to.

regards,

Simon Geraghty
