Thanks Shaun.....but that note only deals with Modems.
I don't have a modem or system at home.
What I want to know is how do I get it from here onto a disk which
in turn would be taken home and allow me to run the software ???

5057.3 | PCUtil / PCDISK works for me. | OZROCK::BATH | Say NO to Streamline. | Thu Sep 19 1991 21:57 | 15 |
| I use and recommend:
PCDISK on a VAXstation 3100
and
PCUtil (with PcPatch off Fish Disk 218) on the Amiga.
PcPatch allows PCUtil (which seems to come on the Extras disk) to use the small
(3.? inch) drive on your Amiga. You've still got a problem in that you need
to bootstrap yourself in... i.e. you can't use this method to get PcPatch
down on your Amiga.
Does your dealer provide Fish Disks? Basically you need to get hold of Fish
Disk 218 from someone. Then you should be all set.

Thanks for the info......but being a real novice, it still doesn't
mean much to me. Could you drop me some mail and explain ???

5057.5 | Basically you have 3 three choices | CVG::PETTENGILL | mulp | Thu Sep 19 1991 23:15 | 20 |
| Option 1
print the usenet stuff on paper and type it in to your amiga.
This is not recommended
Option 2
transfer the usenet stuff over a phone line between a vms or unix
or amiga or pc dos or mac via a terminal connection; either a direct
wire (null modem) or via a telephone line. However, you have to buy
or have someone give you some software to make this possible and
there at least a dozen options to chose from
Option 3
transfer the usenet stuff via diskette by writing it on a vms or unix
or amiga or pc doc and then physically moving the diskette to your
amiga. However, except for the amiga to amiga case, you still need
some software that you have to buy or get from a friend
What you really need to find is a patient dealer (and dealers are most patient
when you're spending money) or a friend close by who can set you up and give
you the necessary starter diskette.

| John,
Digital gear you need is one of:
MS DOS PC with pathworks to give you network access.
VAXstation with RX23 and SoftPC emulation
DECstation with RX23 and SoftPC emulation
Software on the AMIGA, to allow you to read 3.5 inch diskettes. Where

Cheers Greg,
I'm in SQF Scotland.......where are you ???
I can get access to a DECstation, but as my job doesn't involve the
use of this (we're a manufacturing plant), I wouldn't even know what RX23
and SoftPC emulation were. As I've said, I'm a complete novice needing
help.
