5022.0. "GVP A500 Series II w/o disk?" by PECAN::LITTLE (Todd Little, TNSG/SDT/Reuse Technologies Group) Thu Sep 05 1991 17:03

    Does anyone know of a place that would sell me an A500 GVP Series II
    SCSI Host Adapter *without* a disk drive? I have more drives than I
    can fill or care to backup right now. All I want is to upgrade to a
    better controller and add some memory via cheap SIMM's.

5022.1bit bucket...CRBOSS::QUIRICIThu Sep 05 1991 17:085
    i think the bit bucket in newton had a sale a few weeks ago - they
    may still have some left. my understanding is that the controller
    only was $199?

5022.2Wrong adapter I suspectPECAN::LITTLETodd Little, TNSG/SDT/Reuse Technologies GroupFri Sep 06 1991 14:375
    That price sounds like the A2000 adapter, not the A500. I called
    Bit Bucket and they say the adapter isn't sold without the drive. Any
    other ideas?

5022.3I heard the System Eyes with Split BundlesTLE::RMEYERSRandy MeyersFri Sep 06 1991 16:435
Re: .0

I believe that System Eyes would be willing to remove a bundled drive
from a package, and sell you just the controller or just the drive.
Call them up: (603) 889-1234.

    I just called System Eyes and they gave me the same line, not sold
    without the drive.

    Todd,

    Have you considered bying a contoller/drive pair and selling the drive?

5022.6Anyone tried a BB with a GVP Series II?PECAN::LITTLETodd Little, TNSG/SDT/Reuse Technologies GroupSat Sep 07 1991 11:185
    Yeah, but I'd probably lose a fair amount on the resale. I'm think at
    this point of going with a Bodega Bay and an A2000 controller. It will
    be nearly the same amount and I can then use 2000 cards in the future.

5022.7BAHTAT::LEECHS::hiltonHow's it going royal ugly dudes?Mon Sep 09 1991 07:445
I went through this. Eventually bought a Dataflyer 500 kit, with no
hard drive. Probably not as good as the GVP, but it does me.

5022.8SIMM's supported by GVP?PECAN::LITTLETodd Little, TNSG/SDT/Reuse Technologies GroupTue Sep 10 1991 14:545
    What size SIMM's will the GVP A2000 HC0/8 Series II host adapter
    accept? Can it handle 2MB or 4MB SIMM's besides the standard 1MB
    SIMM's?
