4977.0. "Quantum Drive Problems " by FOSTER::PILEEKI () Wed Aug 21 1991 10:22

I have an amiga 2500 with a quantum 40s harddrive in it.
Recently I purchased a used 40s drive to add to my 2500 externally.
Here's were the problems begin, first the machine would hang upon bootup
so I went in and changed one of the jumpers for the scssi address. Now
the machine boots fine but I don't get any icons showing the external
drive. Either drive works fine independently but not together.
Note I have a 2091 controller and have tried the jumper on the board for
multiple luns to no avail.

Anybody else out there have this same setup?

    Any suggestions would be appreciated.

If your microcode on the A2091 is less than version 6.6, you cannot use
removable media (tapes, cdrom etc) or more than one device.

Since 6.6 was JUST released to dealers within the last couple weeks,
I doubt you have it.

How do I determine what microcode I have ?

Well, It might be marked on the ROM itself. If not, you can write a program
to search the EXEC device list for scsi.device. In that data structure
is the code level...

Or you could use my SHOW utility which displays this (and much more) info.
XOPER might do it as well... (I can upload SHOW if you want it).

Well, John's answer was correct. I picked up the new EPROMS from System
Eyes yesterday ( @$40 I might add). This also fixed a seagate 65m that
was playing dead so now I have three hard drives connected to the system
WOW!

Thanks for the advice.

Steve, you may want to check back with System Eyes in case they made a
mistake. I just received two pairs of roms for myself and a friend.
They were considered warranty repair and cost nothing. I was asked to
fill out a warranty form and provide the purchase date (5/90) and the serial
number of the 2000. I received my proms from the Memory Location.
