I need help setting up UUCP ....I've got the latest version from the fish disks , Amiga UUCP 1.13D . I've setup the node name and the username and also the system I'm connection to name in the Config file .... Setup the system name in L.Sys with the phone no and have tried several time to call the remote system.... First I create a mail using DMail -O dmail>mail [email protected] a message..exit I find that this creates three files in the UUSpool directory. one is a command file containing two lines , one containing the mail and the third I'm not sure what it is but contains four lines with the last line having rmail username.... Then I dial the remote system using UUCICO -x5 -xx -s'remotesystem' I get a connection it looks for a file and the first file is seen it says requesting that file ...it sits there for a minute or two.. then I get a message saying PROTOCOL ERROR and the first file is echoed. I've tried changing my speed of the modem (Penril V32) from 9600 to 2400...I even tried to change the preferences to be 9600 8 bit 1 stop and no parity and no handshaking.... Is there any more I can do to find where the fault is.. Steve....

This is correct. > Then I dial the remote system using UUCICO -x5 -xx -s'remotesystem' I don't know what the -x switches you are using do (I assume it has something to do with your high modem rate). I use uucico -Snodename. Try stating UUCICO -x5 -xx -d5 -sxxx. The "-d5" will enable debug mode and you'll see the details behind the activity. > I get a connection it looks for a file and the first file is seen > it says requesting that file ...it sits there for a minute or two.. > then I get a message saying PROTOCOL ERROR and the first file is > echoed. Unfortunately, this should be many things. Handshaking failure during the data xfer, communication problem with your modem and theirs or Xon/Xoff. File creation failure on the remote system perhaps. The debug mode should reveal some info; I'd also ask your remote system sysop to look at their logfile to see if perhaps more info is there. > I've tried changing my speed of the modem (Penril V32) from 9600 to > 2400...I even tried to change the preferences to be 9600 8 bit 1 stop > and no parity and no handshaking.... It typically is: 8 bits No parity 1 stop bit Xon/Xoff I'm still using V1.08 because it was so stable and didn't require DICE to rebuild it. You may also want to examine the alt.amiga.uucp and alt.amiga.uucp.patches newsgroups for information. Keith
4966.2 | Handshaking was the problem | VIVIAN::S_GOLDSTEIN | Tue Aug 20 1991 11:48 | 8
Thanks Keith But I have found the fault was due to my modem's handshaking....the Penril has a command /Qx,x where x is the type of handshaking dte-dce xon-x0ff none (/Q0,0) I now get the completed message... Steve G |
