| re: .0 /1) I don't think you'd have much use for an AMIGA version of
CVTARC. That is strictly for converting one RMS file format into
another. The RMS development team hasn't agreed to do RMS/AMIGA
yet...8^).

| I presume what he wants is something which can repair the damage caused by
transmission of the wrong type of vms file. I would guess that this might
be possible but considerably more difficult on the amiga because you don't
have RMS to help, and you don't know what type of file it was, or how the
transmitting program might have misinterpretted it.

The latency between Fish disks coming out and them being uploaded has been
discussed at length before.
If you are sufficiantly impatient, can I suggest that you research getting the
disks from Usenet (Discussed in this conference). Then perhaps you could
upload them - of course the only problem with doing this is that other people
may start to get impatient when work/wife/children/dogs etc demands mean that
you may not do this quick enough.
Sorry to get on my high horse about this, but society is starting to P*ss me of
in a big way. I find that any volentry organisation seems to have difficulty
in getting people to assist, and I suspect that the main reason for this is
that anyone who does assist, find that all they get is critism from the people
who won't do a DAMN thing. References, Any P&C, Little athletics, netball teams
etc ad nausiem!

| Stan I didn't meant to upset anybody. But if you can tell me how to
reach Usenet and where, I'll do the job, as long as I stay here.
I know how to reach the FTP AB20.larc.nasa.gov , if it's something
like this, just give me an address (if it's possible).
- The Amiga version of CVTARC, is to repair stuff I get from Vnews &
FTP, It will not work on the amiga if it hasn't been CVTARCed.
I will not always have an VMS system to help me. :-)

4948.5 | I've asked about doing the Fish disks before... | MADRE::MWM | | Thu Aug 08 1991 13:45 | 12 |
| Well, I did one batch of fish disks, and asked for as to where they should
go. Since I didn't get _any_ responses, I assumed nobody was interested in
having me move fish disks from my Amiga to the ENET.
I get the disks from Fred direct, lharc them and tar them to a tk50 on
the Amiga. I bring that in, untar it on my system, and then copy the
disks to ????.
Tell me where to put them; I'll be glad to do the above. Note that I get
them as much as 2 weeks after the announcement about them goes out, though.

Erik,
It is the VMS system that is causing the problems you are experiencing.
KERMIT and Zmodem for example, require different file characteristics in
order to work correctly. As long as you run CVTARC on any files before
you KERMIT/Xmodem/Zmodem/whatever them to your Amiga, you won't have a
problem. If your circumstances change, and you aren't using a VMS
system to get files from USENET and FTP to your Amiga, I doubt you'll
see the same problems.
