4943.0. "HP Deskjet + vs. Deskjet 500 " by COMICS::HOGGAN (No, I am not kidding !!!) Mon Aug 05 1991 11:08

Hi,

I'm in the market for an HP Deskjet + or an HP Deskjet 500. What are the
differences between the two. A friend runs a deskjet + happily on his A500,
but I believe that there are problems with drivers on the deskjet 500?

Hi,

I just phoned up the HP help desk and asked about the two printers. The Deskjet
Plus is no longer made, the 500 being the new model to replace it. It is
physically the same design and has the following main improvements:

	Speed is now 3ppm
New builtin fonts include CG Times and Letter Gothic

The retail is 499 pounds (ex. VAT) which includes a 3 year 'send-back' warranty.
The 500 is backwardly compatible with the Deskjet Plus peripherals.

Dave,

This may be a silly question :^)

But wouldn't it be cheaper to buy a DIGITAL one from IMM or something?

Hi,

re -.1

NO! To be honest, I trust HP quality above the DEC inkjets. Also getting
something from IMM is difficult at best and the price is not wonderful.

A DESKJET 500 will cost around 400 pounds, new with 3 year guarantee. A DEC/IMM
printer will cost as much (if not more) without a guarantee.
