4925.0. "ZOO vers. 2.1 Now Available" by KALI::PLOUFF (Devoted to his Lawn) Fri Jul 26 1991 12:57

Rahul Dhesi has released a new ZOO, version 2.1. It runs faster than
v2.01 or 2.02 and produces slightly smaller archives. ZOO now offers a
"high performance" compression option similar to LHARC's algorithm,
which actually outperforms LHARC by a bit.

I have placed the following files on TAPE::AMIGA:[UPLOAD] --

    ZOO21.EXE;1 VMS v5.3 executable
    ZOO21_SRC.ZOO;1 Sources, fairly portable
ZOO_VMS47_TIMEFUNCTIONS.C;1 Timestamp functions for VMS v4.7

The files in the archive should recompile on any VMS system.

The bad news -- there's no Amiga version yet. Brian Waters ported the
previous version but never released source code. The new version has
some (but far from all) portability problems addressed, and needs work.
The bulk of Brian's work on the previous versions was making file
attributes come out right, i.e. dates and permission flags. Perhaps
some Amiga programming wizards here can make the new one work...

4925.1Amiga version of ZOO V2.1 on CRISTA""::AMIGA:CRISTA::CAPRICCIOGarth, take your Ritalin...Sun Aug 11 1991 05:1532
    Please find the Amiga version of ZOO V2.1 on CRISTA""::AMIGA: as;

                         ZOO21.LZH 104

From the "tag" file contained in the archive:

This is a quick port of Zoo version 2.1 to the Amiga. Work has
already begun on implementing the speedups put into 2.01 back into
this version. Because of the significantly increased compression, and
the fact that this version is out for other platforms, I wanted to
get this version out reasonably quickly. Please send comments,
suggestions, and bug reports ASAP to the addresses given in the
     amiga.notes file.

For those of you that send in a registration fee of $25 or more
by August 31, 1991, you will receive a disk with the faster version
of Zoo 2.1 on it. In addition you will receive the '2.0 Survival
Disk'. This disk will include useful programs for use under the new
2.0 operations system. It will include things such as, a program to
stop the floppies from clicking, a program to enable the '*' as a
wildcard, and a mouseblanker and a NewCLI like program implemented as
Commodities. If you have already sent in a donation for a previous
version of zoo, this disk is available to you for a fee of $5. Just
send in a note with a reference to your address that you registered
     under etc.
If you have written or know of a freely redistributable program that
should be included on the 2.0 Survival Disk please inform me!

The 2.0 Survival Disk will be shipped the second week of September or
within 2 weeks after I receive the final 2.0 release whichever is
     later!

Arrgh! I encourage anyone with time and initiative to make a FREEWARE
version of this code and distribute source through the original
    (Unix-MSDOS) author, Rahul Dhesi.
