4909.1 | There is a way | XSNAKE::WILSONTL | Lead Trumpet (Read that...LEED!) | Mon Jul 22 1991 13:58 | 5 |
| Try Left-Amiga / N
There is also a screen-to-back gadget in the upper right corner, 'tho
it is VERY hard to see.

| By "back to windowning" I assume you mean your Workbench Amiga system. If so,
then the note in -.1 is correct. But if you mean using the VLT terminal
window, then the answer is you can't. VLT is not a multi-session type program.

4909.3 | Have tried Screen to Background no effect | BSS::BENNING | | Mon Jul 22 1991 14:34 | 5 |
| I have tried to do the screen to background option but it does not have
any effect. I still just sit there and watch the transfer.
But thanks for the input.

4909.4 | Moving screen to background works until xfering | BSS::BENNING | | Mon Jul 22 1991 15:01 | 8 |
| Sorry I should have been clearer in the problem statement. The moving
the screen to background feature works until I start a file transfer.
Once the transfer starts that feature no longer responds, and I can not
get back to the windowing environment. Reply .2 may be the answer in
that VLTjr is not multi tasking. IF not is there a file transfer
program that is? One of the main reasons that I bought the Amiga was
to be able to use the multi tasking environment.

4909.5 | VLT[jr] does multitask | BOMBE::MOORE | Amiga: Where 'multimedia' REALLY began | Mon Jul 22 1991 16:39 | 5 |
| I believe one of the menu options is something like "Auto-Screen to
Back". If you enable this feature, VLT will switch you back to the
workbench screen at the start of any file transfer operation. You
might also think about installing one of the many programs (I use
DMouse) which allow you to shuffle screens via the mouse buttons.

4909.6 | | PAMSRC::XHOST::BARRETT | Tar is not a plaything | Mon Jul 22 1991 16:51 | 15 |
| I didn't say VLT doesn't multi-task; I said it didn't support multi-sessions.
I was referring to the ability of some communication programs/protocols to
allow continued use while transfers were in progress.
I "switch" to the Workbench screen during a VLT file transfer all the time.
I'll bet you're running VLT with a "WORKBENCH" screen setting. You need
to change this to a "CUSTOM" or "8 COLOR" screen setting. You do this through
one of the pulldown menus (don't forget to save it). After that, you should
be able to "switch" to and from the Workbench screen by using the
L-Amiga/N and L-Amiga/M keys.

4909.7 | | STAR::GUINEAU | but what was the question? | Mon Jul 22 1991 16:51 | 9 |
| I have been using VLTjr for a long time with no problems.
VLTjr is defintly multi tasking. Using left amiga m/n or the "SHOW WORKBENCH"
button on the transfer window should work.
Also, how are you starting VLTjr? If it's from something like MyMenu, then
it will act weird like this. Try running it from it's ICON...

| I just tried what was in .6 the left Amiga/n and left AMiga/m did the
trick. It is a lot more productive now.
Thanks a bunch!!!!

As a by the way, VLTjr uses R-Amiga-J to pop to Workbench normally,
and the file transfer has a button labeled "Show Workbench" that
does the same. I regularly format a floppy, etc while a download is
in progress. I use Zmodem.
