Select Restore. Then you will be given the option to rebuild the catalog
file.
Now I have a question:
I downloaded the MRbackup 5.02 from the Fred Fish disk. It took 25 floppies
to back up my DH0:. So I decided to use LHARC to compress the entire DH0: disk
into one .lzh file. The command I used was:
lharc -x -r -b32 -w:ram: -m a DH3:DH0_BCK.LZH DH0:*
I then used MRbackup to save this file on 16 floppies. A definite saving in
time as the LHARC can run over night unattended. Plus since I have enough disk
space to keep the .LZH files on line I can use LHARC to restore a file quickly
if I need to with out fumbling through floppies.
The problem occurs when I attempt to restore the Bigfile. MRbackup ask for
the first floppy. It restores that OK. I then get a requester to remove the
floppy in DF0:. I click on Ok and it aborts due to no units ready. If I
place the second floppy in DF0: then click OK it still ask me to remove the
floppy from DF0: again. If I persist and click OK with the second floppy in
DF0: it evtually aborts with a no units ready. How do you make MRbackup
request or look for the second floppy?
Is this a restriction in the non comercial version?. Has anyone tried to
do this with any of the comercial backup programs? The resulting file ended
up being over 14MB. My test file was ony 8MB or 7 floppies.
If you can save a BigFile to multiple floppies I would think a restore option
would be a necessary feature. Nothing in the documentation mentions that this
is a missing from the Pd distributed version. The Comercial version includes
a tape driver and a differant floppy driver to allow more/faster floppy
access. I only have DF0: with 190MB of hard disk space a second floppy is
a little useless..
Thanks for any hint
Alan

Hmmm .. so when you accidently loose your startup-sequence
you'll have to restore a 14 MByte .LZH file (assuming you still have
room on your hard disk), and then extract out the one file.
I think the 9 extras floppies afford a greater measure of convenience.
In several years I've never had to do a full disk restoration, only
individual files.

| I just do a
lharc e dh3:DH0_BCK.lzh dh0:s/StartUp-Sequence
I have enough disk space to keep all three back up .LZH file on line for
DH0:(45MB) DH1:(70MB) and DH2:(20MB). The DH3:(45MB) is the back up disk.
But I still need to be able to restore from floppy as a last resort.
This includes the 11MB PCDisk for my Bridge board compressed 70%. Lharc has
much better compression than MRbackup. Plus I can run it unattended.
If I were to loose my .LZH file then I would have to restore it. But saving
those large files to floppies is a lot faster since MRBackup is not slowed
down doing its compression and it takes less floppies. Which translates
into backups done more often.
