4893.0. ".LZH, .ZOO - Progs, usage & gettin' em" by FORTY2::CADWALLADER () Fri Jul 12 1991 11:22

	Hi,
I assume .LZH files in the TAPE:: directory are LHARCed files,
as the .LZH suffix rings a bell (I can't check because I am Migless for
a few days). I know .ZOO are ZOOed files (intuitive eh?).

Thing is ... where can I get the latest ZOO, and how's the best way of
extracting files from the TAPE:: to (eventually) 3.5" floppy? Can anyone
recommend other Notes/directories where I can find similar things and/or
programming tips ... I've been browsing a lot but the access times are
pretty gruesome in the UK when the machines are under a heavy load, so
	searching is laborious.

Some of the projects look really zowee so I'm chomping at the bit to get
	my read/write head on them.

	Cheers.

Re .0:

You have the naming convention correct. There are also .ARC files
around that you use ARC on.

There are a number of ways of getting started. The basic methods
    are --

    1.	Get a terminal emulator with download capabilities and get the Amiga
images onto your system. They are on TAPE:: if you look hard enough
(and you don't have to look very hard at all).

    2.	If you have a VAX or PC with a 3 1/2" drive, put the utilities on
an MS-DOS format and use one of the DOS disk reading programs
to copy them to your Amiga. Check other notes for their names and
costs of compercial products that do this.

    3.	Get a friend to put togeather a disk with the key components from 1 or
2 on it for you. You can put one together entierly from freely
redistributable sources so there should be no legal problems with
	doing that.

This has been discussed at great length in other notes - look for titles
    and keywords mentioning download.
