4871.0. "Monitor Reqd." by JOCKEY::LUDLAMA () Fri Jul 05 1991 12:46

    Please can anyone let me know where I can get hold of a very cheap
    colour monitor for my amiga. I understand that the VR241 is about the
    most suitable to connect to an amiga.

Arron,

	You can buy from Idle Material (IMM) in the UK (with CC Manager approval)
idle assets for personal use. I just checked - no VR241 listed - they
are probably too old to continue to list them. Its been a while since I've
seen one - the price was around $60.

	Failing that, you could walk around any office in the UK Southern Region
and politely request that the person responsible for asset management return
to IMM some of the VR241s that are stuffed on top of cupboards, serving as
desk anchoring devices and otherwise "idly" wasting office space. If you
visit the same offices that I have recently, you won't be short of choice.

/Chris.
4871.2IMM? Sounds good to me. TROA09::TONIZZOFri Jul 05 1991 17:141
	Geez, why can't we do that in Canada anyway?

    Thanks for the advice, but out of interest is there any other monitor
    in IMM that will run on the amiga.I have had an offer of a Vr290
    something but I understand that this would take a number of expensive
    modifications to work with an amiga ?.
    cheers

4871.4A terminal for body-buildersWARHED::GILLILANDMon Jul 08 1991 10:075
    Shouldn't need any modifications - the VR290 has RGB inputs just like
    the VR241. Mind you, the VR290 is a monster of a terminal - 19" screen
    and weighs about 90 pounds. You'll need a strong table !

I thought there was a discussion regarding the VAxstation monitors somewhere
which indicated they were not usable due to their scan rates ?

Re .-1 Correct. The VAXstation monitors use a peculiar vertical scan rate
which is specific to the video driver boards in the VS, DS etc hosts. I don't
remember the exact details but I did have one once and *NEVER* got it to work
with a PC - so I bet you'd have the same problem on an Amiga.

There's a couple of PCXV-B3 PC VGA monitors in IMM but they'll be mighty expensive
as they are new and also sought after. You won't get sign off for these as
other people need them for real work :-). You could of course buy one
through the regular employee purchase scheme (I think you get 50% off list)
A 15" hi-res colour monitor (PC6XV-E3) lists at 941.90 but I guess that
even 50% of that blows your budget huh?

I would seriously walk up to a site facility manager and demand that he cleared
up some of the truly idle material sitting around. Write "Please Use Me" in the
dust on a VR241 case and bring it to his attention. If still there after
1-month I think you've got a good case for making him a cash offer.
