If you get a hold of the A64 Emulator, then purchase the inexpensive
hardware interface from the shareware author, you can run all your C64
programs on the 500 and use the printer.

In truth, that's asking too much. The MPS801 only connects to the
C=64/128 "serial bus", which is emulated by A64 and other software
referred to in .1, but doesn't really exist on the Amiga. The A64
interface will ONLY allow you to use the MPS801 with emulated C=64
software.
AmigaDOS "preference printers" connect to either the RS232 serial port
or the (Centronics) parallel port (into which A64's adapter connects).
Amiga word processors and other applications expect you to use the
printer specified in the AmigaDOS preferences file. I suppose a
printer driver could be written to support the MPS801 through the A64
interface (and a corresponding C=64 serial port device driver), but it
wouldn't be worth the effort. Sell the MPS801 to another C=64 user
(you won't get much for it) and pick up a decent parallel printer (you
can do well these days for under $200).
