4855.0. "Printer Compatible?" by NEST::CURRY () Tue Jun 25 1991 19:37

    I owned a Commodore 64 computer before upgrading to an A500. I was
    wondering if the MP801 printer that I got with the C64 is compatible
    with my A500? I'm hopeful that all I'll need to do is go to the
    software shop and pick up a new cable, or is that asking too much?

    Well, yes and no ...

    If you get a hold of the A64 Emulator, then purchase the inexpensive
    hardware interface from the shareware author, you can run all your C64
    programs on the 500 and use the printer.
4855.2The short answer is "NO".ULTRA::KINDELBill Kindel @ LTN1Wed Jun 26 1991 18:0022

    In truth, that's asking too much. The MPS801 only connects to the
    C=64/128 "serial bus", which is emulated by A64 and other software
    referred to in .1, but doesn't really exist on the Amiga. The A64
    interface will ONLY allow you to use the MPS801 with emulated C=64
    software.

    AmigaDOS "preference printers" connect to either the RS232 serial port
    or the (Centronics) parallel port (into which A64's adapter connects).
    Amiga word processors and other applications expect you to use the
    printer specified in the AmigaDOS preferences file. I suppose a
    printer driver could be written to support the MPS801 through the A64
    interface (and a corresponding C=64 serial port device driver), but it
    wouldn't be worth the effort. Sell the MPS801 to another C=64 user
    (you won't get much for it) and pick up a decent parallel printer (you
    can do well these days for under $200).

    Any ideas or opinions about what you would consider to be a
    decent printer for around $200.00? Bear with me,I'm new at
    this!!
