Ed, look in CSCMAS::SYS$MSDOS:[insert-meaningfull-names-here]
A $ dir CSCMAS::SYS$MSDOS:[*]*tar* might do it...

| Hi John;
I can't get into cscmas.... Have you tried recently?
I get a directory lookup failed.

| Bernie recently moved all the FD software off CSCMAS to WINNAH (an
ultrix system). FD = Freely Distributable.

| Thanks, I'll have to do a search/title=winnah to see what the proper
syntax is for searching the disk.

| You'll probably have better luck in the IBMPC notesfile on NAC:: as well...

4793.6 | Can't hurt to ask... | SHARE::DOYLE | | Sat Jun 08 1991 10:27 | 23 |
| I've posted the following message in the IBMPC notes as well.
Perhaps someone with experience in both platforms (AMIGA & IBMPC) has
some ideas?
I found Tar for the IBM, however I can't make it access the
tape, backs up to the drive pretty well though :').
The setup I have with the decstation requires that I have the
following in my config.sys file for the sytos software to allow backup
to tape: "DEVICE=C:/SYSTEM/SCSITAPE.SYS"
When I boot my system it echos: "SCSITAPE 2:0 device installed" or
something like it anyway.
However I believe TAR is looking for physical device name..
Anybody have any ideas if I could assign one to it, or perhaps its in
there but I can't find it?
What about the setup software that comes with the station?
SETUP325 allows you to define other SCSI devices, why not the tape
drive?
Sorry if the above questions seem ridiculous... I'm not as familiar
with the IBM enviroment as I am with some others.
Thanks;
Ed

| just a wild guess... if it pretends to be a disk device, then it
probably grabbed the next available drive letter when it loaded the
SCSITAPE driver.
