4756.0. "Wordperfect 4.1 Hard disk install?" by ANGLIN::GAINES () Tue May 21 1991 16:22

    	Finally I decide to put wordperfect 4.1 on my hard-disk.
    	I copy everything to DH1. When I ckick on WP icon I get
    	install volume WP. I put the Floppy version in drive DF0
    	and WordPerfect come up. Dictionary and Thesaursus works
    	ok via DH1.

    	I did notice that when I'm asked to install volume
    	WP retry/cancel window comes up. If I cancel 4 times in
    	a row WP comes on ok...

    	Whats up, what am I doing wrong, any ideas?

4756.1probably looking in WP firstSAUTER::SAUTERJohn SauterTue May 21 1991 16:245
    I've never installed WordPerfect, but my guess is that the program is
    looking for some information on WP first, and if it can't find it there
    it looks in the current directory. To avoid the requestors, modify
    your startup file to define WP to point to DH1.

4756.2You Need to ASSIGN WP:RIPPLE::LUKE_TETue May 21 1991 18:317
    You have to ASSIGN WP: disk:path/ so that it looks for Word Perfect on
    the hard disk. Just from recollection, there is another assign that
    has to be done as well for the printer. It's best to put these in your
    startup-sequence.

4756.3Look in s: for the command fileLODGE::LENDavid M. LenWed May 22 1991 14:2310
    As I remember the installation procedure, it actually creats a command
    file that correctly ASSIGN's the required logicals for WP. By default
    the file is placed in s: (sorry I don't remember the name). But if you
    EXECUTE this file from your startup-sequence it will set things up
    correctly. Remember do NOT have the WP floppies loaded when you run it
    from the hard drive, because the floppy names are taken over ASSIGNed
    logical names.

    I myself did not use this file, I put the ASSIGNs directly into one of
    my startup command files. I believe Pro Page does the same thing.
4756.4Still trying, but monitor died.ANGLIN::GAINESMon Jun 03 1991 23:4810
    I've tried many assign combinations, just can't seem to get it to
    work... I've lookes at the startup-sequence on the floppy and tried
    substituting using dh1/. Now my monitor is on the flip side, I
    will get it repaired this week and try again.

    Meanwhile if someone could look up all the appropiate assignments, I'll
    need to get this going on my harddisk I would appreciate it. I'm sure
    I'll get there...

4756.5Assign WP: DH1:WPBOMBE::MOOREAmiga: Where 'multimedia' REALLY beganTue Jun 04 1991 01:549
    Did you use the HD installation procedure provided with the product?

    The assignments in my startup procedure are:

    	Assign WP: DH0:WP
    	Assign Print: DH0:Print

    These are the two directories where the WordPerfect components were
    placed by their installation procedure.
4756.6Finally got it done.ANGLIN::GAINESSun Jun 23 1991 01:168
	I found my problem with the install. Simply had to perform
	the install to DH0. I don't know why it did not like DH1...
	Anyhow all is well here now, my 1084 monitor I managed to
	repair at home. Had a cold solder joint on one of the
	flyback transformer pins.
